I want to check this place out and Mimosa.  I feel like I checked off all the SD spots so want to see something different.

Your C. Phaea is a bit bigger than mine and has larger leaves, probably mine will get bigger as it gets older like my C. Reitziana (fingers crossed for self sterile for that one as I only have one of that plant).

The E. Azeda I noticed is a very slow grower as well, what I do like about that one though is it did not seem to mind to be in direct sun unlike some Eugenias.  Speaking only from end of summer heat experience though but seems promising even if it takes us forever to get to fruiting stage lol.

Received the yellow grumichama seeds yesterday, they are all basically germinated sheesh! The ross sapote and lemondrop mangosteen plants look fantastic as well.  Lance is a A++ seller in my book.

Yea figured it would probably be a waste of time but it looks like a neat palm.  I guess even if it survived here it would probably be rare and marginal like coconut palms and not fruit ever.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Bactris genus cold tolerance
« on: November 21, 2023, 01:16:43 AM »
Anyone growing these palms on the mainland?  Interested in attempting Bactris ferruginea but have no idea if they would withstand our winters.  Not a whole lot of info out there on their ability to take cold, I did find some page saying that will not take even 32F.

There's cacao trees in Animal Crossing.  Also durian in Breath of the Wild.  I am sure there are a ton of other examples.

Perfect timing because I hate money so much.  ;)

Looks like both of my spots are 10b now.  Here's hoping to 11a in 20 years.  ;)

Lance is one of the best sellers here.  My lemondrop mangosteen seeds came in nice and green and after unsheathing them and dropping on a heatmat, all are germinating.  Thanks again.

I had some Frankies Garcinias that were growing at a decent rate, but some rats decided to chew them up so I think thats the end of them.  Macrophylla grows at a pretty decent speed as well, and Madruno not too far behind. These are all generally slow though compared to other genus plants obviously.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Soursop fruiting in container?
« on: November 07, 2023, 06:41:03 PM »
No fruits yet but started flowering last year, pic below is how big it was when it started pumping out buds. It’s definitely possible, idk if they’re on the forum but an Instagram friend produced soursop in their apartment in Ukraine

Looks great, how old is your tree? My largest one is almost 2 feet started from seed from Lance back in February. They grow so fast.  I plan on putting in the ground eventually but want to overwinter it for its first winter.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Wampee seeds
« on: November 06, 2023, 11:22:02 PM »
Hey all,

I have some wampee seeds, ultra fresh.  Not sure of cultivar, tastes a bit like kumquat with a faint hint of grape, maybe slightly less sour with an edible skin.  20 seeds for $10.  Standard mail or pay $3.50 extra for bubble mailer.

Some people say kind of difficult to grow, I have one plant that's not from this variety and have had no issues at all.  Just avoid intense summer heat when young.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Green Sapote best light/sun conditions?
« on: November 06, 2023, 08:08:33 PM »
Mine is slightly smaller.  It was actually in full sun here for the end of spring and early summer, then our summer heat picked up and started baking it a little.  I will probably nudge mine back in full sun once our daytime highs drop below 80.

Has anybody tried growing from seed? I have some fresh pearl guavas on the way to me.  Fingers crossed they grow something good later down the line, for science you know.  :)

Received the geonoma palm seedlings and other psidiums yesterday, they look fantastic! Thanks again for sharing these little guys with us, A+ seller for sure.

I am always impressed by gardeners far north and your setups.  Seriously awesome to see the zone pushing in action.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Achacha in California?
« on: October 25, 2023, 06:11:43 PM »
I don't have achacha but I have a Madruno pushing still and de Bico.  Waiting on my Lucs Jumbo to get second set of leaves.  Still new to Garcinias but they seem to push all the time (slowly) except for winter.

Thanks for the Australe seedlings David, they look great! Even hooked it up with a bonus one.

I doubt there's a blacklist unless you are out here getting bad boy plants e.g. weed or other drugs type of plants.  USDA confiscated one of my orders from the middle east once and sent me a warning letter but it sounded like no big deal really, just don't keep doing it sort of thing.   I have ordered since then with seed lot permit no issue, but like the above I just stick with domestic sellers to make life easier.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pictures of some of my Annona fruits
« on: October 22, 2023, 06:41:18 PM »
I heard the same Bill.  Red Geffner is my first annona ever.  My grafted plant purchased last year was still young and just flowered this year but didn't set.  Even the grower mentioned it wasn't a particularly tasty atemoya but I was naive when purchasing.  Ah well, you live and learn.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Germinated Soursop
« on: October 21, 2023, 06:58:33 PM »
I have a little bag of soursop seeds sprouting right now.  Probably like 20 to 25 in there, a bunch sprouting.  From fresh fruit eaten around June. Anyone interested? I could do $15 for the whole bag + $15 shipping.

I may have some Pruinosus and Thurberi seedlings to give away in a year or so.  I have a Chacalapensis probably about 5 or 6 inches tall now,  got a nice growth spurt during summer.  Seems to even be outpacing the Griseus and Pruinosus that were similar size right next to it.
