CRFG Foothill Chapter meeting on Aug 2nd
« on: July 18, 2014, 06:32:00 PM »
Who will be attending this meeting?  There will be a presentation by Tim Thompson on mangos.  I am pretty much a virgin when it comes to growing mango trees.  Just bought an ice cream mango 2 weeks ago.

Anyone whose attending got mango scions to share?  Mango scions are pretty hard to come by.

xshen,
I am a member of the Foothill CRFG and will be attending the meeting...can't wait to hear Mango Professor's presentation too!
Did you buy a 15 gal ice cream mango from Champa Nursery?  I saw a few there a week ago...and I don't recall seeing this variety at other nurseries.  The 15 gal trees were really nice.
I also saw 15 gallon Alampur Baneshan mango trees, which are a little more rare in SoCal.
btw, what mango scions are you looking for?

Are you the Warren that picked up a whole bunch of mango trees from champa?  Jimmy told me this warren person bought a whole bunch of mango trees when I was there few weeks ago.  My friend got the ice cream mango for me from a nursery in santa ana.  Jimmy said he would save me one but he sold them all.  After I bought the 3 gal ice cream, he later got the 15 gallon plants.

What mangos are you growing?  For scions, im looking for coconut cream, lemon zest, ppk, vp, and anything that grows well and taste good in our climate.

xshen,
I have bought several trees from Champa....not a whole bunch....so that may have been a different Warren.
I am currently growing Glenn, Mallika, Timotayo, Gold Nugget, Nam Doc Mai, Keitt, Okrung, Po Pyu Kalay, Sunset, Alphonso, Valencia Pride, White Pirie, Fairchild, Golden Glow, and Harumanis.  Most of these are small trees or on cocktail trees...except for my Glenn.  I can provide you Glenn scions for sure...Glenn is the easiest to grow in SoCal and tastes very good.
I need to check the availability of PPK and VP.
Sorry, I do not have Coconut Cream.  You have to buy this from TT.
Lemon Zest is in the graft propagation stage...so no scions for this one either.

Thanks Warren.  I am interested in Fairchild as well.  Let me know

I have Glenn grafted onto my keitt.  Is glenn a vigorous grower?  I hope it'll keep up with keitt ' s growth habit.

Glenn is not a vigorous grower in CA.  However, VP and Lemon Zest are ....and a better match growthwise with Keitt on a cocktail tree.  I'll still check availability of VP with a friend.
Sorry, my Fairchild tree is way too small for a scion donation...maybe next year for this variety.

No problem on the fairchild. I am not in a hurry.  Do you know where I can buy a lemon zest?

There is a patent pending on coconut cream. Have a little respect. Buy the tree.

Why don't you have a little respect and back off.  I already stated I didn't know much about mangos nor its patents.  I didn't know there's a pending patent and how would you know I'm not willing to buy the tree?

I don't know what I'm doing. That's why I'm here to learn. Take your condescending attitude and prick around else where.

Putting this mango nazi on ignore mode.

Warren,  can I actually take your offer on your Glenn mango scions?  My friend's brother have a 8-9 feet tall Indian mango seedling that he want  to graft over with different varieties.  He could use 2-3 scions.  I've told him about the mango presentation and he is very likely to attend or even join the CRFG.  He's been growing lots of other tropical fruits as well in his backyard in Duarte.

Ok, I will prep a few Glenn scions for him.  May have some VP scions for you too.
