I have a really nice Cambuca (Plinia edulis) plant that is about 3 feet tall that I would trade for a nice Ilama plant either seedling or grafted,

Hey Ed, that's a nice cambuca plant. Curious why you are getting rid of it? Have others or you tasted fruit and did not like it?

That is a beautiful Cambuca...really nice size. Did you grow it from seed? How old is it? Is it a slow grower?

Thanks Jacob! It is a 5 year old seedling. The first couple years in Houston it really struggled when I was watering it with chlorinated water. Once I got me some rain barrels and started watering it with rain water the growth and appearance was greatly improved! It is growing really well here in Central Florida with regular watering! If it gets a little dry the leaves will get droopy!

James I got seeds from Oscar and a source in Florida who doesn't usually offer them to the public.

BTW Oscar,

All of my Plinia edulis seeds sprouted (maybe except for one, still may be germinating)

I notice the chlorine water kills the first sprouts, and they come back from the seed again.

All of mine died back,and came back!

this is one of my favorite trees so far, and best fruits ever.

so many tropical plants hate chlorine. Everyone should have a chlorine filter. So easy and cheap to install. Glad the seeds are all sprouting for you.

Here is a little tip for everyone growing cambuca from seeds - and before you plant the seeds... You divide the seeds in half and each half (cotyledon) will sprout. That way you get twice as many trees. I don't know if this is possible with seeds from other species but probably.

Yes it's possible also with mangosteen. But i don't recommend it unless you're desperate for more starts. Cutting seeds in pieces lowers food reserves for seedling plant and it's not as likely to be vigorous as seedling drawing off food from a large seed.

I have some 3 years old, nice looking, cambuca seedlings. I may sell some of them! I have too many rare seedlings, and I am running out of space! I also have a bunch of extra rare stuff! Send me an email if interested. My latest acquisitions, jenipapo (genipa americana) and mangaba (hancornia speciosa). Jenipapo and mangaba are experiments for those of us that like challenges.
