Free Groff Lychee Tree
« on: July 23, 2012, 07:15:18 AM »
3 gallon Groff Lychee tree in container.  Healthy, nice shape.

I have collected too many lychee trees, and this one must go.

I'm located in Port Charlotte, FL.

Looking forward to you throwing some lychee parties in a few years, Erica.    I wonder if Groff is a chicken tongue variety.

Hey BradFlorida: I will be in Port Charlotte next Friday and can pick up that tree. I may have something you want for trade. let me know.

Dan: pics from google search show a very tiny chicken tongue like seed.

I'm not sure if this tree is still available/alive. I think Brad mentioned destroying the tree in need of space because there was no interest even with the price of FREE.  Can't think of the thread he'd mentioned this.

Not sure why you would destroy a plant in a 3 gallon pot.  If space was that much of an issue then he surely should not be buying/planting anything else as there would not be enough room.  Just my two rubles

Things happen sometimes ...

On a somewhat related note, I have been trying to recently get rid of trees which I don't really need (they are all in containers, waiting for my new home).  On the list was a groff lychee tree.  None of my friends wanted it.  Even a local nursery guy had no interest, even at the price of free!  So I just took the tree and broke it up and put it into the garbage.  It felt like such a sin.  I really felt that it was not the right thing to do to a fruit producing wonder of nature.

Why destroy 3 gallon groff?  Because its an inferior quality lychee tree that I can't even give away (no one locally wants it), and because it is being replaced with a more desirable tree.  When your yard is 1/3 acre you have to prioritize.
