First sugar apples less than 12months old
« on: October 05, 2021, 06:44:18 PM »
Was inspecting my trees yesterday and almost fell over when i saw what seems to be tiny little fruits forming on one of my sugar apple trees, this tree has been in the ground well less than 12 months and is around 50-60cm high!!!!! This seems extremely fast has anyone else seen this?

I know they have a reputation for bearing quickly from seed. I have about eight of them growing and the larger ones are just hitting 60cm/2ft tall now.  Maybe I will get flowers soon, too :)

Yeh the tree next to it is also a sugar apple but only half the size, i will take a photo of it this arvo.  I think this might even have beaten my strawberry guava which also fruited in less than a year.

I have had a couple of sugar apple seedlings bloom at two years old and roughly a 1 ft. tall. I think it is because I left them in small containers for those two years. Once they got rootbound, they felt a need to bloom and reproduce due to the stress of being rootbound. Other seedlings from that same batch had previously been transplanted into larger containers with plenty of space for root growth; they are three times as tall but have never shown any signs of blooming. I have never heard of one blooming at one year, though.

It's a flower not a fruit yet.
Heres a picture of a small fruit forming last year. It was a 47-18
which is why it's red. Most of my sugar apples including red fruited types
start out green

Thanks mate i have another one planted at the same time that is only half the size with no flowers/fruits, must be a fair bit of diversity in them.
