mango recovery
« on: March 02, 2022, 08:20:55 PM »
I have around 10 mangos that got hit pretty hard by the
two cold nights in January even though I covered them
Several of them started pushing. Initially I didn't water
them but what's the next step? Here's some pictures one
is my honey kiss and the other is a super alphonso.
Should I cut off all the dead branches? Should I cut the upper
dead trunk away. should I water once a week should I fertilize.
I am thankful for the proper advice initially not to water.

I'm horrible at giving advice, but I found this video helpful: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n5wTw1lLufg

I had ambrosia beetles attacking some stressed trees and cut everything back to good wood a couple weeks ago. It gave me a chance to reshape some stuff. Seeing the new growth coming out makes me glad I already trimmed--can't imagine it'd be easy to work a pruning saw around the delicate new shoots.

I would remove the deadwood.
They are in ground and your soil drains well so watering once a week may be fine so long as we have no significant rain
Regarding fertilizing, I won't rush to.  Instead, I will fertilize when I fertilize other trees in the yard.
