What To Do With Green Bananas?
« on: September 13, 2022, 11:22:12 AM »
Inspired by Brad, I chopped a fruiting banana stalk that was damaging our fence. In the past, would've waited till ripe, but after seeing those cado trees taken out, got the nerve up to take it down.

Question: Can you do anything to make super green bananas edible? These are Sweethearts. Not sure if they can be used like plantains at this stage. All ideas are welcome and appreciated!

I like making baked green banana chips or fries. Cut the ends off, make a slit down, then peel the skin off (use a knife and cutting board you don't care about!). Then slice and bake at 400 for 20 minutes (flip half way through if you care to).

I like to boil them sometimes too.

We usually fry them in oil then smash them and fry them again. Thinking about making green banana flour tho.

I like to boil them in the skin and then peel and cut up chunks that I sprinkle A1 steak sauce on to eat. Works for me.

I like to make banana fries. Orinocco is best, but I have used way under ripe cavendish as well and even manzano once. They retain some of the distinctive aftertaste, just not sweet. I am sure sweetheart will be ok cooked as well.
