Kumquat from seed

Has anyone here grown a Kumquat from seed?   Which variety?  How large/old are they for first flowers/fruit?  any info would be helpful.

I've heard they don't do well on their own roots, so unless you are trying to breed new varieties you are probably better off with grafted kumquats.  I imagine they will take many years to fruit from seed, especially in a container in a northern climate. 

They do germinate very easily, though.  I spit the seeds back into the containers when I eat the fruit and there are always little kumquat plants sprouting in the soil.

I've seen a mature kumquat in the ground. Good drainage is essential.

 I have seen several quite large Meiwa kumquats on their own root. They were very thorny and were good producers.
