Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pickering Starting To Flower
« on: November 08, 2023, 03:05:16 PM »
It's early November and I see my Pickering is starting to produce pannicles.  Never saw them this early previously.  In July 2022 I cut it back quite a bit due to space concerns.  As a result it produced no fruit this summer. Could this be the reason for the early pannicles?
Also, I know the Pickering is a "dwarf" mango, but this tree left to its own devices will grow and grow.

Hive removals are definitely not free.  I had a small hive on the side of my house a few years ago.  Quotes to have it removed were between $300-$500.

Upon closer inspection with a magnifying I did spot a few, very few, three, green aphids.  So I don't think it's an insect problem.
The affected leaves are dry and crumble when touched.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pickering: New Growth Dying
« on: April 08, 2023, 09:17:21 AM »
My Pickering, several years in ground has been going through a succession of growth flushes.  Two previous flushes have been without issue.  This latest flush, however, has withered and shriveled and is dying off.  I haven't fed the tree anything.  What might be going on?

Makes sense. . .after the mangoes were harvested last summer I gave the tree a moderate trimming in mid July.  Two growth flushes quickly followed. So that may be why I'll be buying mangoes at Costco this summer. >:(

My Pickering gave us 90 delicious mangoes last summer.  This season, however, looks like a bust.  Mid-February and one pannicle has popped up while the rest of the tree appears dormant.  :(  Why??   :'(

Central Broward, my Pickering appears to be in a deep coma.  :-\

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Honey Kiss: Iron deficiency or something else?
« on: November 17, 2022, 12:48:43 PM »
See photos, please.  My Honey Kiss tree, two years in ground, is lacking in something.  My guess is iron.  What do you think?

Water has been rainfall, of which there has been plenty here in south FL.
Feeding with 8-3-9, once in August and again a month later in Sept.  Older leaves are unaffected by whatever is happening.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Honey Kiss: New Growth Seems Sick

Honey Kiss mango, planted in ground last summer from 7 gallon pot.  It has had several growth flushes but the new leaves look like the pictures.  This is the most recent flush.  Previous ones have fallen off the tree.  Older leaves don't seem to have any problems.  Any ideas?

Honey Kiss, in ground for one year.  Previous growth flush and now this one looks like this.  Otherwise the tree appears healthy.

Haven't sprayed anything.  About two weeks ago I gave a feeding of 8-3-9 fertilizer and some pelletized gypsum.  I have used both previously without any problems.  I also fed both to my Honey Kiss tree and it isn't showing any similar symptoms.  Just took a look at the new growth flush and they all appear vigorous and healthy.

Did you spray anything recently? Did you fertilize?

Hi, John.  I am starting to see a few growth flushes, but the pattern on some of those leaves has me concerned.  Could be my brown thumb mentality. :-\

My Pickering gave me a good crop this season.  Plenty of fruit, and after a bland handful of mangos to start the season, they were positively stinkin' delicious.  Now, I'm looking at the tree and I'm seeing a lot of leaves that indicate something is wrong.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

Upon further review, whatever this is has spread to several leaves.  In the photos you will notice white spots on the tree.  The house painter rinsed off some brushes nearby and got some on the tree.  I don't think this has anything to do with the browning on the leaves.

Interesting.  I'll have to keep my eye on this.  Thanks, Guanabanus.

Honey Kiss, planted last summer from 7 gal pot. Seems to be doing well.  But I noticed this the other day on a few leaves.  Any idea what might be happening?

You guys are killin' me.  My Pickerings are big, heavy and juicy, numerous. . .but boring and bland.

Yeah, the texture is good, juicy as heck, but hardly any sweetness or flavor.  I'm hoping some of the later ones that are still on the tree up their game.

Is it just my tree?  My trusty Pickering is starting to give up her fruits, but to date they have all been uncharacteristically bland.
Are others getting the same results?  Was it that lovely Saturday a few weeks back with 8" of rain? >:(

My Pickering is showing me something isn't right.  What's it trying to tell me?  And my Honey Kiss, planted from a 7 gallon pot last summer is also showing a similar leaf pattern, but not quite as obvious.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Excessive Fruit Drop?

I agree with your assessment of the Pickering.  Easily managed size, fruit is delicious!  I enjoy the reactions when a friend or neighbor comes over and sees a seven foot mango tree loaded with fruit.  "Is that a mango tree??  It's so small.  What kind of mango is that?  Where can I get one?"  :D

My Pickering is dropping fruit at a pretty good rate.  Is this the norm?  A cry for help?
