Mango veneer graft update and question

So 30+ days ago I attempted my first veneer graft (Feb. 28):









but it doesn't look like it was doing much of anything, so I unwrapped it today, and it looks like the graft took:






There are some new growth on the main rootstock, despite having given it a cut after the graft, so I'm thinking maybe I should cut the top off the main rootstock again, but this time only leaving a couple of leaves.  Maybe that will force the growth on the graft.  What do yall think?

I am not sure if you should have unwrapped the entire graft yet. It may not have created a strong enough union so be very careful with it so it doesn't break off.

Yeah, I got impatient =(  I was going to wrap it up again, but thought that it would do more harm than good since it will take a bit of pressure to wrap it up.

is T-bud graft better than Veneer? How does Veneer graft really look like? Can we do bark graft on Mangoes?

you are in palm springs and it gets very dry there. I know you create humid conditions, what might be the reason for failure of your grafts? I am in Corona and will be grafting mangoes when I get scions, not sure how grafts take here in So Cal with very low humidity.

You're in Corona?  I'm in Rancho Cucamonga!  What exactly are your mango grafting plans?  Do you have a good source for scionwood?  I have a bunch of Ataualfo seedlings I'm growing to try grafting, and one I bought at HD to graft over later this summer with a variety or two I'm getting from Oscar.  Nice to know I've got more rare fruit growing neighbors!

James, yes I am in corona and am waiting for scoins. I have Nam Doc Mai and Alphonso plants but they havent flushed yet and are small. I am planning to put Maha Chanok graft onto Alphonso if I can get hold of the scion. Still in the hunt for some scions.

By the way, I am hooked onto T-budding now. I got success in approcot, plums, and even cherimoya. if and when I get my first Maha Chanok scions, my plan is to do veneer graft, and the the part of scions where veneer was removed, I will use buds if any to to T-budding. Right now my mango tree is ready to receive as its buds are swelling and bark is easy to peal.
