New mangoes from Zills

I am trying to find out the parentage on the newly released Pineapple Pleasure.

For those in the know, yes, that means you murahilin and Jeff, there was a cross they were experimenting with:  Valencia Price x Nam Doc Mai.  I was a little curious if this was the new Pineapple Pleasure...well, it isn't.  BUT, I did find out that they WILL be releasing this cross in the near future under the name Candy.

Thanks for the info. The PP sap has a citrussy smell like the coco cream. Have you tried the candy?

Yes, in 2010 and 2011.  In 2010, was consistent and would say very good to excellent.  Had the intense sweetness of the NDM with the citrusy twang of the VP...very much mango candy-like.  Last year, they were very inconsistent.  Some were very good while I would say the majority were just plain tart (almost a little like "green" tart) and chalky/pasty (they were just off for some reason, then again a lot of theirs were off last year and it was even acknowledged).

Regarding the 'candy', I only got to try the 2010 crop and it was pretty good. One of the best mangos I had in 2010. Really nice looking fruit too. That was probably why I liked it so much.

I don't remember off hand (will look back for any pics or notes) but it looked very much like a NDM shape with a little bit of rosy blush.

Geez !  I just can't keep up.  I'm pretty much out of room at this point. 

Soon might be chop and top time for some so-so varieties like Alphonso and Young/Tebow ...

I can't remember seeing an experimental number for the ndm x valencia pride. At Excalibur I think they were just labeled as ndm x valencia pride. Jeff, maybe you or Patrick can ask next time you are there.

These are all experimental.  There is not enough info out to give these answers for certain.

I believe murahilin mat be partially correct.  I think they did have names written on them but they also had numbers on some.all.  I can picture the mangoes but just can't recall the numbers.  I have an idea in my head but it I am not certain enough to say for sure.

Its a good idea when you are running out of space.  The only downside is that if each cultivar blooms/gives fruits at very different times, the tree might give a mediocre quality fruit because of all the stress produced on it.
