Harvested some Suris...Not the tribe ;)
« on: April 22, 2012, 06:38:09 AM »
Hi :),

I harvested some Surinam cherries...

My Suri crops several times a year...I think the Surinam cherry are stimulated to produce when they get a good amount of water!

This is my winter crop...some of it ;D ;D ;D

Who's cultivating them too...add pics if possible ;)

tasted some suris today, and found that the red ones have a better resin taste.  In lorenzis book it says there is an orange type with firm flesh and sweet fruits that is somewhat rare.

looks like u got a real tasty one jackwhisperer..where did u get your tree??

seems like all the stuff near u is special, and never the normal type.  I wonder who is responsible for all of these unique plant introductions near u?

where again are you near?  my geography knowledge is garbage, please forgive me!

OOPS!

DUHHH!

HAHA!

thanks Bulldawg!

sometimes I feel a bit like rainman...able to do somethings with excellence, and at the same time, profoundly deficient in other important facets of everyday life. :(

Hi :),

I have a red variety (VERY resiny) and purple ones which are sweeter and have less resin taste. I much prefer the purple ones. Several people I know prefer the red.

That's what I like about tropical fruits... something for everyone, BUT, that also makes it hard to take someones advice on flavor!

Hi Adam ;D ;D ;D,

The tree was already planted when I came to the Island! I didn't know what this fruit was...I tasted it...It was an explosion of flavour...Never
thought that a small fruit will be so flavorfull!

There a guy in the Governmental nursey that is always importing new stuff to the Island! I have never seen a glance of him...He's very illusive and always hiding in them bushes ;D ;D ;D

My parents are from here!   I have no clue if there is plant collectors here...they are very secretive!!

Hi Gnappi, Like the name...BTW ;D

Yes, these red one is also very resiny! I like to eat when they are fully ripe and sweet!

I have also tasted the Purple/Black one...you are right, they are sweet and less resin taste! though If I eat an under ripe black suri...it tastes like burnt caramel!

I got several black suri seedlings that I wan't to fruit in a large pot!
