Not sure about salak, but bactris is double armed, with spines along leaflets, that stick in you just like opuntia, but worse!

Let me know if salak has same feature! So i don't mess my hands up when I see one in person...the bactris setosa I have, taught me a lesson.

Trust me, salaks are by far the nastiest. But they are also great fruits. So worth growing anyway. A lot of great fruits from areas with lots of wildlife have to arm themselves for the fruits to survive preadators. But palms seems to be by far the worst of the sticky thorny ones.

Its my long running joke,

But I call such plants "daughters bedroom window" plants.  ;D
Agaves work great for this purpose as well, on top of that, you can collect your own aguamiel or brew your own tequila  ;D ;D ;D

Have you tried googling the answer to that question?

I did.  However, I find many posters on the forums to be a more reliable source of info on fruit plants than the general internet.

There are some very reliable sources that you should always check first such as Morton's book which is available for free online. It will probably have a lot of answers to questions that you may have.

Here is a link to her section on kumquats (it has an answer to your kumquat question): http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/kumquat.html

I hope that information is helpful to you.
