Took some pics of the inside of the unknown autocarpus. Flavor was pretty much bland, but it may have to do with the fruit being picked early. Put it in a blender with some olosapo and olosapo cousin also from the F&S park. Delicious! Don't know why olosapo fruit isn't more well-liked or well-known.

Jaime, as i recall the olosapo fruit from the tree at F&S park was quite fibrous. I've heard there are much better fiber less types in its native Costa Rica/Panama, where it is indeed appreciated.

I disagree with number two being the questionmark tree. I'd put a few dollars on it being the cucumber tree - parmentiera edulis/aculeata

I will check my plants vs. your suggestions this weekend... I think the guajilote may be right, the rest I am not so sure. But, you never know...

Thanks,

Plant #1 looks a lot like my little Black sapote plant.

I'm quite certain about the ID of plant one and three!

I have many at my house.

crush the leaves and smell them!

btw, look at the white specks on the bark of plant one!  feature is indicative of bunchosia.

also, thorns on tips of myrcianthes pungens,  makes it very easy to identify as such.

also, quite certain plant 4 must be Eugenia!

good luck!

as soon as I say I know I'm right, soon after I notice I'm mistaken.

So I was hesitant to say anything for sure.  All I needed was a little doubt to fuel my fire.

Glad u noticed this one is bunchosia.

One time I thought a passion fruit seedling was a canistel seedling (pictured on the forum)!

If you saw this plant in person, you wouldn't have been so easily confused!

Thanks to my mates from Oz who helped me ID a cucumber tree! never heard of it, but seen one before!

Hi Adam, I have another plant labeled as peanut butter fruit and it doesn't look at all like plant #1 which you said, and others agree, is Peanut Butter Fruit.

Here is the labeled one:

I compared my parmentiera edulis (guajilote) plant with the #2 plant and can see that they are different plants. Here are pics of my guajilote:

#2 plant

The guajilote has rigid branches and leaves, while the #2 plant has very pliable branches and leaves.

try crushing a piece of each leaf and comparing the smell.

I bet they are similar...its like a taste test with your nose!

let me know if u perform this experiment, and if so, what your findings are.

thanks!

Jaime, search the species name on line. The zig zagged plant you have must be mis labelled. http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_catalog/cat.cgi?uid=parmentiera_edulis

I think you got it, BMc...

It may be Flacourtia rukam, or Flacourtia indica, but my money's on Rukam as I seem to remember having eaten some at the F&S Park and keeping some of the seeds.

Thanks,
Jaime

Hi Adam,

I tried the crush and smell test and...

The one you say is Bunchosia armeniaca, plant #1, has a smell reminiscent of moringa, a little nutty, while the one I have labeled as PB fruit barely has any smell at all.

But, I'm convinced, nevertheless, that it is Bunchosia Armeniaca or Argentea. The images online are very similar to what I have.

Thanks, Adam.

Jaime's plant does look like Parmenteria edulis, guajilote. Adam's plant with less ridging on leaf might be Parmenteria cereifera, candle tree. These two are often confused.

Now I'm really confused as I finally found a guajilote tree at the F&S Park and those leaves don't look at all like the ones I have:

Jaime, keep in mind that mature leaves on trees can sometimes look quite different than juvenille leaves.

wait wait wait,

just a sec.

the leaves of the tree are opposite from F & S, and alternate on the plant you posted first.

they can't be of the same family
