You can cover seedlings with wire screen. Search the forum for keyword squirrel to see different solutions, traps, etc.. I have had a squirrel hide Peanut butter fruit seeds which they collected out on the tree. The seeds later came up in a pot and I potted them. The rat bar baits might help. I have rats dig into pots and get seeds too. I feed them these cookies one/day and it has helped. They are available at Farm stores. Mouse baits aren't strong enough.

I use the Squirrelinator, I modify it by using wire to secure the large flap shut. I bait it for several days upside down, then I flip the trap to catch them. I have gotten up to six at a time. YMMV
This year I only trapped squirrels for one month, and in that month I captured 33 squirrels, last year I got 43.

I had a problem with ground squirrels eating my mango seedlings.  The would dig up the seeds and eat them.
My solution was using my sons 22 pellet rifle. (Kind of fun). Lol
But in the end,  I was able to get rid of them with the “Just One Bite Bar” .  It toon a couple of weeks but it worked.

I found 2 items that work best, a 110 conibear when not home and a bob gun when you are home.
