Title: Best time to graft loquat?
Post by: Ado on January 29, 2023, 07:34:22 PM
I'm going to try to graft big Jim and peluche but have no idea when the grafting season is for loquat. Never really thought I liked them until at Brad's fruit tasting a few years back.

I grafted about a dozen or so about a month ago. All are shooting out new growth now. Last year I grafted that same time of the year on plants in the ground and they all took as well. I covered the ones in ground with tin foil for about 10 days and then I remove the foil.

In SoCal, you can graft loquats all year long. I'm grafting some now.

Does Loquat grafting season vary with rootstock ? It is compatible with a few different species as rootstock.

I don't know about grafting season varying with rootstock. The only rootstock to use is loquat seedlings and quince seedlings that I know of. You can use quince to keep the grafted tree small. I only use loquat rootstock so my answer is no, it can be grafted any time of the year.
