Lots of flowers here too. I love the red.  Can’t remember if male or female (I think female) but I’m still looking for healthy vegetative growth over fruit.  Maybe next year I’ll graft on some scions of opposite sex but it’s fun to have it healthy and thriving!

Rad! What rootstock is it on? Thx

Ultra Rare Eugenia Cisplatensis seedlings for sale. $17 per seedling, or buy 2 for $30, plus shipping.

This fruit is said to be very tasty, the new foliage is beautiful, and a very high percentage of the flowers will turn into fruit, so the fruit set is very good on this one.

Here’s a video describing the fruit and the tree. In the video the commentator says the fruit is very tasty, fruit set is high, and the new foliage is gorgeous.

It should also be noted this species is at risk of going extinct due to habitat loss.

I've been growing sugarcane for years but never juiced it. What do you guys use for pressing/juicing?

You gotta juice it! It’s a game changer! My buddy and I split the cost and bought a manual one on eBay and it’s works great. Something like the one in the link below, you can also Macgyver these things and make it automatic by installing a little motor.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/134603073264?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1LcNWK8LHSducFVrZnzbwzw0&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-166974-028196-7&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=134603073264&targetid=2205838237908&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9031541&poi=&campaignid=20396238153&mkgroupid=154726585347&rlsatarget=pla-2205838237908&abcId=9317558&merchantid=6296724&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2eKtBhDcARIsAEGTG41XJK1spCTSmZj4bpjFSczLqMOgra_9j03hCBZ51snPp1kZQCWTCAcaAqs9EALw_wcB

FREE YANGMEI SCIONS. I had two suckers coming from the rootstock of my grafted Biqi so I decided to cut one so they don’t take too much energy from the graft. I cut the branch yesterday and would like to mail it today or tomorrow so it’s fresh. I don’t know if this sucker/scion(s) will turn out to be male or female as I haven’t had the test to determine that yet (if anyone needs to test their trees please let me know).
You would just need to pay shipping for small flat rate box which is $10.50
Here’s some pics-

Simon, your trees are rocking man!!! Very inspiring. Way to go!

Here’s a picture of my Sumo grafted onto our “Velma” Grapefruit tree that has a dwarf rootstock, however the tree is over 30 years old. This graft is less than a year old and the fruit is just about ready to eat.

Sumo Orange

On the contrary, here’s a 3 year old blood orange graft that hasn’t flowered yet, it’s grafted onto a dwarf lemon tree.

I’m sure a lot of factors contribute to the fast/slow growth of grafts, but you would think it would be relatively the same since it’s all citrus. Also my trees are only 10ft apart so they get about the same treatment.

What other citrus grafts have fruited quickly for you?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: when to pick Chandler pummelo?
« on: January 29, 2024, 12:47:40 PM »
This Chandler just fell off into my hands with the slightest touch, hopefully it’s ready, mostly yellow with just a splash of light green on one side. Over 2lbs. Looking forward to trying it.

Chandler on the left. “Velma” Grapefruit on the right.

San Diego Yellow is my favorite for pressing. I’ve experimented with about 10 different varieties and the SD Yellow grows well, is very sweet and doesn’t fall apart when pressed like the softer purple and black varieties. The canes that have bulges aren’t ideal for pressing. Brad has a stripped cane that he says is super good but I have not tried that variety yet.

Simon

The sole reason I started growing cane was because of the phenomenal sugar cane juice you made for one of Brads tasting party’s. Nectar of the Gods...And you get such a nice array of flavors depending on what kind of citrus you cut it with. Thanks Simon, got many good tips from the posts you’ve made about cane 👍🏽

Hi, we just pressed some San Diego Yellow cane from the garden and it’s really good, we cut it with citrus so the color doesn’t turn brown. It’s a very vigorous grower. Right now would be a good time to plant cuttings, our cane has huge buds which would be perfect to put into the ground right now, once it warms up they’ll start to shoot up. You can just lay pieces flat on the ground with buds facing up, cover with a little dirt and they’ll pop this spring. Send me a PM if you’d like some cuttings, maybe we can work out a trade or something. Cheers

Are you really selling scions for profit you got for FREE that people donated for the Orange County Rare Fruit Growers Scion Exchange that took place last weekend? If so you should be banned from the event next year.

Wow, you really are bitter because of me pointing out your burkartiana listing. Pretty aggressive accusing me of that and threatening me. These are fresh cut to order off my established trees, so thanks for your concern.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the Burkartiana listing but I figured you would think that, I would call out anyone who sold scions from a free scion exchange that are meant for peoples gardens and not meant to be sold for profit. What a surprise you’re denying it...especially when I saw you walking around with a giant bag at the exchange...I hope I’m wrong and you’re not really that low, but I have talked with a couple forum members who have dealt with you and they both said you’re shady.

You have no basis for accusing me of taking these scions, which I’m offering here, from the CRFG scion exchange. I have two large trees from which these scions will be cut. I don’t appreciate the false accusations.

My basis is I saw you stuffing your giant bag and now all of a sudden you’re selling the same exact scions that were at the exchange, interesting timing! And to top it off I didn’t see you donating anything! It pisses me off because I donated scions, and those scions weren’t meant to be sold. I wonder how many members missed out on scions because of your greed. It’s not right what you’re doing.

Ya man 100% Positive. Seeds were purchased from the man himself Hapa Joe in June 2022. In case you didn’t know he actually goes into the jungle and collects the seeds HIMSELF, so these cane directly from the source, no middle man. So how would you like to pay Jeremy?  😉

So I confirmed with Joe that yours it NOT the same as what’s being sold on eBay by both Kam and Steven as Eugenia burkartiana. Yours from Joe is what’s pictured.

Lol and yes, by the pure definition of middle man, you absolutely purchased from a middle man. But anywho, now there are some questions as what Helton has described as burkartiana is different than whatever source Kam and Steven are getting as Burkartiana.

Thanks for the heads up Jeremy! I didn’t realize I had the more rare variety from Helton Josue!!! Maybe I should charge more  :)

After talking with a couple trustworthy sources, this one that you’re offering should not be referred to as burkartiana but unicamp instead.

You can’t just go around re-naming stuff dude...Who are your trustworthy sources? I assume they are more trustworthy than Helton Josue? He’s the one who identified the seedling I’m selling. Anyways the fruit from the seedling I’m selling has actually been tasted by Hapa Joe at Heltons place and he’s confirmed the taste is excellent, he described it as slightly tart but juicy.”

Also Anderson Tropicals has the same picture of the fruit being posted and it’s listed as Eugenia Burkartiana (Pitanga Acerola) He was selling seeds for $25 each and he’s sold out, so I guess a lot of people have the wrong thing, according to you. Isn’t Anderson Tropicals a trusted source? I guess you need to call him out too.

These are the ORANGE variety of COTRG. Approx 6”. They are much better tasting than the standard red variety. $15/each plus shipping or take both for $28 + shipping.

Eugenia Burkartiana for sale. From Helton Josue’s Garden!!! This is the more rare Orange variety, NOT the black variety. These seeds go for $25-$35 each. Cost for seedling is $45 plus shipping. Over a year old. Has some cold damage but it’s pushing new growth as you can see in the close up picture. This is said to be one of the best Eugenias to eat out of hand. Reportedly has a sweet berry like flavor with minimal acidity. It is native to Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil and reports indicate it can handle temps down to 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
