Maha.  1st yr fruiting.  Not colorful like smaller ones on tree in sun but i feared losing it to varmints.
This is/was largest fruit on tree by a lot.  Others won't be near this size.

I'll look into them nutes doc.  I got all kinds of problems happening quickly.
Mites? appeared suddenly, sprayed soap & spinosad, leaves yellowing falling off from something.  I did water couple times per week during drought.
I have potassium sulfate & phosphite, is this need of potassium?

Doc, they all look great.  Mine don't look as pretty.  I must be using the wrong nutrients.  Good job.

M4 i must be picking wrong.  Haven't picked any this yr but 2 are almost small grapefruit size which is larger then i remember in past.  Taste has yet to wow me.  Edible skin though.

My 1st 2025 mango.  Cogshall picked 2 weeks ago outta fear of losing it.  Was great.
Ate most of skin, a bit thick though maybe because i picked it soon but ate it anyway lol.
Spoon thing just for fun.  I don't eat mangos with spoons :)

You're right, thanks.  I'll see how the spinosad/castile soap treatments work 1st.
That stuff would be great for all other non fruit trees.

33
Fixed sprayer, did all but 2 trees (used up mix) before lunch & will spray the others shortly.
Spinosad label shows it's omri blessed which honestly i'd rather have without blessing at 1/2 cost.

If i were to use mineral oil instead & washed it off following day before temps got above 90F, would that work?
Don't know how long spiders & eggs can hold their breath.

34
Avermectin interesting & relation to Ivermectin.
Tried spraying the castile soap with Spinosad at 3 parts to 1 of the soap but darn hose end sprayer acted up.
Soaking head in vinegar & will blow out with air tomorrow.  Those spider mites spead quick.

A list of signs when to pick each variety would be so nice.  I know some get shoulders, but do all?
Brown stem, sap beads, color change, firmness, shoulders, all that would be great to read.

36
Pine, as i understand Sulfur needs 3 days below 85 after application.
Oil's?  I don't know if applied in evening & dry by morning if it would work like baby oil on skin.

Spider mites new to me, my poor leaves got so many scars quick & tiny white clusters of what looks like snow caps chocolate candy back in the day.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Spider Mites- what to use above 90F?
« on: May 08, 2025, 06:17:49 PM »
Oils & sulfur is out being it's above 90F.

I have Dr B's pure Castile soap & Spinosad.

Used the castile soap alone tonight 1oz/gal. 2oz mentioned on youtube but 1's enough for 1st time user & i hosed it on.

What do you all suggest on trees with quite large fruit?  Mangos i'm dealing with.
Thanks!

my input- get that tape for support stick off.  strangling it looks fom here and you don't need it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: How do I avoid "mango mouth?"
« on: May 07, 2025, 04:58:49 PM »
I just ate a supermarket imported Tommy.  I always add one to order cause sometimes they're very good (sometimes garbage lol) and it was very good.
I ate some with skin (it was that good) and as i was chewing.. tounge started to burn as if i just got bifenthrin spray in mouth.
Did i try another piece with skin?  Of course & yes same burn.  Washed it before cutting.

Bloom, try other varieties this season being it's mild localized reaction.  Just a nibble.  Does citrus bother mouth?

Bloom, 2 thoughts..
Have someone cut it off skin & try just the flesh.  Might be allergic to skin.
Buy some grown in USA & see if same reaction.

Your pic shows board on board fence which is totally private no?  Mine is.
If another fence on property isn't, have fence guy add pickets to make it solid if allowed.
Space underneath in pic i'd consider concrete block.  Animals would struggle getting in lol.

Ok, back outside time.  So much for cool front.

42
Julie, if friends with neighbor, ask if you can paint it but color wise for damaging trees, i say lack of breeze matters more.
I too have fence a few feet from Kent that has funky bark but i'm sure i'll fix it up after harvest prune.

Gap on bottom's larger then mine was but pickets screwed along bottom did the trick & keeps pickets from curling.
Pickets might come wider for your fix?  Cheap too.  That vinyl stuff you linked to i'd pass on.

Julie, my beloved Kent has inner branches/limbs with the black mold looking stuff.
Tried peroxide & water on some a few months ago.  Didn't help but not worse.
Interested in fungicide we should try.
Been pruning everywhere without fruit to let sunshine get at it.

The tiny hole looking spots i thankfully don't have.  Borer?
Black dots on your last photos leaves i think are bugs.  Oil or bifenthrin my guess for it.

How does trunk look where it meets dirt?  Take pics.  Weed eater damage sure can kill a tree.

Honestly i'd rather have it grow slower & produce more.
I'll stop using 6-3-16.  I have a few inches of topsoil we used to level area over sand.
My tree April 2021.  Wow almost to the day.

M4 couple days ago.  Anyone have roots like mine?  Carpet needs trimming but the way trunk's growing is different then all my trees.

If you enjoy the fruit & enjoy trimming, there's nothing wrong with it imo.
Mine had chunk of trunk knocked out by my retired landscaper yrs ago.  It grew back 100% whereas Pickering took a yr more and then some.

I don't bother watering lawn anymore.  Landscaper refused to listen about cutting it high so i gave up.
Mangos been watering every few days with hose.  Meant to today, tomorrow.

Mosquitos- what the bleep is up with them yet no water?  And they're different looking & fast.
Did we get migrated mosquitos from other countries?  I think so.
Bought 2 cans of spray today & windex for spraying them inside.  Windex knocks em dead fyi.

Mango- tasted tiny Maha wind drop. Perfume or flower smell stayed in my nose for a while, tasted like a flower dipped in lemon juice not good lol.

Rob, pickling, what a great idea.  I hate seeing my tiny mangos from non-stop wind gathering flies.
I bite them if soft & pleasantly tasted little Maha drop & said to self i'm gonna like this variety.  1st yr flowered & holding.
I lost 20 outta maybe 30 Raw Honey.  Grew a large 3 or 4 last yr.  Decent.
Cogshall, M4, even Phoenix(some) flowering a few spots.
Peach cobbler lost i'll guess 20 outta 35.  1st yr also.
I pray Phoenix gives me 1 perfect fruit cause i've yet to taste it & youtube vids got me wanting it bad lol.
Cogshall didn't set loads but almost none dropped.  I love that mango, chopped into cubes with skin on tastes so strong & amazing.  Eat with cold leftover seasoned chicken thigh (also chopped up) on hot day for lunch break.
