What do yall think about paw paw fruit toxicity?
« on: March 12, 2025, 10:01:09 AM »
So lately I have been constantly debating about whether I should get paw paw trees or not. I really want to taste and get one but I have read some articles that it contains neurotoxins that kill your neurons. Does anyone know more about this topic and if they are actually harmful or not?

If your worried you can send me your fruit and I'll eat em haha. Some of the old timers at the pawpaw festivals have been eating hundreds of pawpaws a season for decades with no effect. Dont eat the skin or the seeds where it's most concentrated if u worry , not like these parts even taste edible anyways. I have never noticed anything while or after eating them myself either. Pull the trigger and grow it!

Pawpaws grow slow. Grow one now and decide later 😁

You'd have to eat a lot of pawpaw and/or its annonacae relatives which is unlikely especially since they're not available year-round. The bigger risk is the annonacin in the tea people make from the leaves.  Same chemical compound, but higher concentration there.  I wouldn't worry.

I got pawpaw seeds because of their anti cancer propertys.

But if you worry about neurotoxins, i recomend any Hericium species or  Lignosus rhinocerus. They promote nervecell growth (i recomend a hour before you learn something new, that way you learn it faster and beter).

My ducks found somewhere neurotoxins. Lost many last year because of that. They always died a slow agonicing death, where they get slowly paralized. Until i gave them hericium. They where cured in a single day.

Still haven't found the source of the neurotoxin (free range) - but i just give them hericium preemtively.
