Looking for M. Cerifera (Southern Wax Myrtle)
« on: August 12, 2021, 10:53:16 AM »
Hey everyone,

I’m looking for small one gallon Myrica/Morella Cerifera plants in #1 containers that can be shipped to San Diego. I did some searches and the nurseries I found with reasonable prices don’t currently ship. If you have or know any nurseries with these Southern Wax Myrtle trees please let me know. Thanks in advance!

They grow wold here.  Unfortunately probably won't survive being uprooted this time of year. Definitely best to gey potted plants right now.  The ones in my yard are huge and definitely can't be shipped unfortunately.
Trying to grow it all!

May I ask why theres a lot of interest in this species?  Know it has some uses but mostly a wild plant and ornamental here.

Excuse my silly question, I am new in grafting world.
The other day I talked to my 70-ish years old friend from Hongkong, who is a very experienced grafter. She told me that she always grafted yangmei onto mulberry and had a 90% success rate.
Is it possible?

Thanks Kaz, I’m about to order.

Oh yeah, some promising news I’ll share soon on the Yangmei thread.

I doubt Yangmei will graft onto Mulberry but I am just guessing. I’d love to see some pictures.

I have a lot of mulberry trees, I hope that's true. Maybe I will try it next year if I have some branches on the An Hai.

ok, I found my source, here it is.
https://carlosplantfarm.com/products/6-wax-myrtle?_pos=1&_sid=532e8289d&_ss=r

Plants looked good when I received them, now they are growing well. Here's what they looked like when I got the plants.

Same seller.

Mine have taken off quite a bit, they seem to grow pretty quick.

I highly doubt it. Mulberry is not even close to Yangmei.

That's what I thought too.
But my friend insisted they grafted yangmei onto mulberry in China.
Any member from China can confirm?

I ordered an extra pack and it has about 18 small plants (6-pack but each has more than one plants) that I don’t need. If anyone needs them please let me know.

Same here.  I ordered 6 and it came 6-pack with more plants in one pack.  I just separate them and repotted them today.  Let me know if anyone needs them.  Free and local pick up only.

Maybe it was something called mulberry in China that is not in the morus genus. For example, we have paper mulberry in English that is not a morus species but has leaves that look similar to mulberry.
