First yr fruiting, vigorous growing, fruit aren't round & have shades of colors.
I did spray all trees once a couple months ago with Ag citrus, avo, mango micros.  Caused color?  The ones in shade are just green.
And the ones that fell early (thanks landscaper) tasted like crunchy limes lol.

Large walnut size, 1st yr fruiting, never tasted m4.
Cut it half, quartered, cut skin off & popped in mouth.
Tasted like crunchy mild lime.  Believe it or not i enjoyed & swallowed it.
Tasted white seed, wasn't bad but spit it out incase it was poison lol.

Hi all.  I have bags of nice pure cypress mulch.
I read it lowers ph which was frowned upon for some plants but citrus should like that, right?
My planted 15 gallon flame grapefruit tree isn't happy anyway with all the citrus pests.
Months ago i used a bunch around bananas after weeding & didn't kill them & doing great job keeping floratam grass from creeping in & looks good as day i did it.
Grapefruit tree should like it, right?

Looks like Sri Lanka variety eating my mango & citrus tree leaves.
I never saw them till a couple yrs ago.
Besides Bifenthrin, any other treatments ya'll have success with?
I haven't sprayed anything yet, will try the Bifenthrin at 1/4 oz/gal if nothing else works.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My Kent mango not looking productive this yr

Lots of rain during our dry season got it growing leaves not buds on 1/2 the tree, and many panicles got hit with powdery mildew & anthracnose.  I did spray copper but not as often as last yr.  Life got busy.
Anyone else have a Kent not so hot this yr?  Last yr was great, much less rain, guess I'll be happy & average it in.

Peeled, sliced each side off, slid in ziplock 6 halves, freezer, stacked quite a few bags.
My parents are visiting & like a little ice cream after dinner.  I said nuke & chop a half in each bowl.
Let me tell ya's, it was so good.  I mean wow good. 
This was tonights, last night was more frozen & I'll say best!

Saw Kent, felt good, bought 1, put in fridge 2 days & just ate some now.
Almost against my religion but I tossed it after eating less then half.  Gross & weak taste.
Last yr bought a bunch from another store & same thing.  My Kent's are never chewy.

What causes mango to be chewy?  Too much or too little of something?

Edit- by chewy I mean rubber like have to chew.

Hope title makes sense.  I'm curious if some varieties were hit harder then others.
Surely location on your own property can effect be it more/less wind, sun, stored radiant heat from buildings, health of tree ect but let's see if there's a common standout.
I'll inspect mine & update after lunch.

Background-
Trunk had rot in multiple places from support stick it came with.
I kept cutting lower & lower till i got good wood.
Looked dead so i dug it out it's hole & potted for fun.  Watered it every time with micros in water.
6 months or so later, here it is.

Lesson learned.. ties & stick come off soon as i bring them home & inspect before buying.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Can a fresh mulch pile self ignite?

  This morning i saw my fresh brazil pepper tree mulch pile (mostly leaves) steam when i pushed top off with steel rake.  I pushed it to make room for more. 
Bought electric chipper, love it, not loving steaming pile.
I'm going out now to buy another 50' garden hose to leave there for wetting it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is fresh chipped pine mulch better with or w/o the needles?

I have to take down 2 pine trees, one split & other's leaning.  Rather do it now then after a hurricane.
I plan on using the chips around my mangos, avocados & arecas.

Question- is there a up or downside using chipped branches & pine needles vs chips from trunks only?
If mix with chipped needles is better, i'll have garbage pails ready to shoot the branches w/needles in.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / I'd like to plant Mango leaving it in pot

Friend of mine said her Dad planted potted plants by cutting bottom half off pot, and plant it.
I'd love to try it with this mango which has almost doubled in size in less then 2 months.
Plus, i have too many compacted inches of non draining topsoil we used to grade area.  I'm thinking bottom of mango will be in original well-draining sandy soil.
Anyone use this method?  Thank you,

Noticed this today, just the 1.  i read a few things can cause this and worse to where it splits in half.
Lack of boron or calcium or after drought (like we floridians had) followed by heavy rain, which we certainly got yesterday & today.  My pool water rose 3"

Hi citrus people.  I usually talk mangos but, i wanted some citrus.
I told nursery guy i like sweet yellowish grapefruit, he sold me on Flame grapefruit description.
Today i went back for 1 more citrus, bought Ortanique orange.
Both 15 gal, good looking trees.
How'd i do?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sprays to help Mangos hold fruit?

Wondering what ya'll use, tried, learned over the years.
Copper, sulfur, nutrient sprays from big box or specialty stores ect.
Doing nothing in the past for me proved minimal or hardly any fruit.

Yesterday on non blooms i sprayed this 1oz per gal, 1st season trying it.  Drenched a couple months ago too.

For decade i used their site for reliable weather radar.  Couple months ago they totally changed/improved? (not!) their radar, offering 13 or more bands & ALL stink! 

It rained so hard today & yesterday, barely showing anything coming. 
Anyone know of a accurate site?  I don't want a app.  Plain Jane website.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone try using a dvm for testing ph?

Having done basic electronics testing over the years, soil ph meters must be measuring ohms, voltage or both.
I'm thinking 2 long nails or copper rods in wood or plastic block & calibrated using pool test strips & varing amounts of vitamin c in water would be good as any.
