Grafting persimmon in zone 7a (north NJ)

(1/3) > >>

vnomonee:
When is the best time to graft? The tree buds are just cracking open and showing some green, should I wait for "squirrel ears" like on pawpaw?

Nick C:
I graft early spring when the tree is still dormant. Grafted some raven budwood onto my multi grafted tree over a month ago and its starting to push now

vnomonee:
Which techniques did you use? Maybe I'll try some before my sticks go bad if I wait any longer. I'm grafting hachiya onto jiro fuyu

my go-to is always cleft grafts then tie a rubber band around to make sure contact is tight

toehead:
I've had best luck with bark grafts in late May, when temps are consistently in the 70s during the day.

Use lots of inward pressure, and a long contact patch. I've had very high take rates.
