Is there a sour orange / citrus aurantium that will have mature fruit for fall harvest? My Seville fruits from last year never fully colored up even into the next summer, and this year’s crop was lost still fully green with last week’s severe prolonged freeze. Bad variety for me.

Yah, its called a K-Early. ::) Actually, I shouldn't say that since I've never tasted one. My comment is just based on what others have told me.

Just to be clear, I think K-Early is actually classed as a tangelo. However, a friend who tried some described the flavor more like sour orange. I've never eaten one.

If you're specifically looking for a sour orange variety that reliably matures before fall, you might consider trying different varieties or cultivars that are known for their earlier fruiting and ripening habits.

Seville is pretty late ripening, I believe mostly around February. Definitely too late for anyone in a cold climate. I don't know any sour oranges proper that ripen early, but C. taiwanica is fairly close to true sour orange and does ripen earlier. It's not early per se, but from what I can gather it ripens in November to December in the South.

Does taitri (taiwanica x poncirus) ripen early? Mine hasn't fruited yet. Does it have sour orange qualities?

Many streets of Spanish town Seville are planted with sour orange, mostly seedlings. Some time ago I was there in November and collected the seeds. I have now two trees that give colored fruits in the beginning of December. They are planted in the zone 9b garden in the South of France.
