Cold Hardy Citrus / 24 hours of light
« on: December 30, 2022, 04:49:49 AM »
Does anyone know the effects of having 24 hours of light on a citrus plant (100 watt lightbulb) when keeping them warm in the winter?  The normal day/night cycle obviously is thrown off.

Is there anyplace to order cold hardy citrus to sample?  I would like to try some different varieties before I decide to buy any more trees?

Okay...so I started a citrus tree ( Ponderosa lemon)  from seed about 6 years ago. I left it in a pot all those years. So I decided to stick it outside in the ground out of the pot and see if I could overwinter it in zone 6b/7a...Red Lion Pennsylvania. I am only using about 150 Watts of electric heat......christmas lights and a 100 watt bulb...I am also using wood chips, styrofoam and 6 mil plastic. We have had several nights at or below 25 degrees F. And guess what it is flowering.....incredible....

Cold Hardy Citrus / tips for bringing your citrus indoors over the winter
« on: October 01, 2022, 07:51:34 AM »
I have a basement in which I plan to overwinter a couple of citrus that are in 5 gallon buckets. The Temp will be around 55-60 degrees F. I have a Led growth lamp over top of them.  What type of humidity should I try to have around my plants? Should I feed them at all? Should I mist the leaves?
