Looks like bronze loquat Eriobotrya deflexa. Not edible but still pretty.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Lychee X Longan Hybrid?
« on: August 31, 2020, 05:07:20 PM »
Thanks for the replies,
The tree is around 4 feet tall, but it has almost no branches. The guy I got it from says it is a very slow grower and only grows a few inches a year. The fruits are fairly large, but the seeds are too. Compared to lychee seeds, the seed from this fruit is more squat and less long although I think it is closer looking to lychees.

Another seed I already germinated. They may look bigger than they actually are as my hands are small (I'm only 14)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lychee X Longan Hybrid?
« on: August 29, 2020, 12:09:14 PM »
I recently bought a lychee longan hybrid at one of my local nurseries, but now I am thinking it could be the lychee bvariety "Sweet Cliff". The tree is already fruiting and has all of the characteristics you would expect in a hybrid.  The leaves are rounded like a longan but longer like a lychee.  The shell of the fruit are have very little spikes and  have greenish brown spots.  The fruit has the flavor of a lychee but with a musky kick to it.
Any thoughts?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Too Late To Start Sugar Apple Seeds?

Wow, thanks for all the tips. Would it be better to put them between moist paper towel in a bag, or direct sow, or place them in a growing medium in a bag? What is the preferred way of germinating?

Just ordered some sugar apple seeds and was wondering if waiting till next spring to plant would give them a better chance of survival. Lowest it gets around here is 40F.

Wow, that's great to hear! Hopefully it does grow fast. When it fruits I'll make sure to make an update about taste.
Thanks, Micah

I don't remember it too well because it was a while back, although I do remember that I would have rather had a cherimoya. ;D

I've found frozen ones at Seafood City in Mira Mesa. Both red and green.

I'd be interested in a 5 gallon if any are not already reserved. Wouldn't mind a smaller one though.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Rare Frozen Fruit
« on: June 17, 2020, 06:16:16 PM »
Just letting people who live in San Diego know, I just picked up some fresh frozen langsats and santols at Seafood City. While there I also saw that they had frozen purple star apple, soursop, sapodillas, and bilimbis. I don't think it would be easy to get the fresh versions of some of these so for anyone who wants the next best thing, go to Seafood City in Mira Mesa. They occasionally have some good varieties of mangos as well.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Muntingia Dropping Flowers

Thanks for the replies,
I guess fertilization is my problem as I haven fed the tree in a while. Can anyone tell me what fertilizer would work best, or if muntingia trees aren't that picky?

I have a strawberry tree in a 15 gallon pot which has been flowering for a while now but no fruits are forming. The flowers seem to open, an then fall off a few days after. I have tried hand pollination but this hasn't worked either.
Does anyone know whats wrong?

Bummer to have missed the first one but thanks for giving me dibs on the second.  Look forward to hearing from you when it's ready.
Thanks, Micah
