Have you seen mangoes ripen from the BOTTOM up?

I assume this is normal for some types of mangoes,
ripening bow to stern (these are Lemon Zests):

I have seen ghis before, specifically on Orange Sherbert and Coconut Cream.   Watch the fruit closely. When ghis occurred on the fruit the bottom that started ripening first got soft.  I actually picked tbem near the stage uhh ours are at no to avoid further internal damage and loss of frhit.  I also noticed it happened on some of the last fruit on the tree.

Well...I just felt the bottom yellow part on one - it is just a little soft while the green
part above it is fairly firm/hard....So Rob - you think I should pick them now?

Thanks, Gary

Gary
this happen to me the last two year with my LZ. I also had this issue with Duncan and Malika this year. My Glenns, on the other hand, have ripen from the top and then the bottom this year.

My Maha does this. Often the bottom ripens well before the top half, so eating can be a pain, with half ripe and other half under ripe or half ripe and half jelly.

How many fruit do you have on the tree?  If you have enough to test, you might want to harvest some now and leave some on the tree to see what happens as they progress.  If doing this, monitor them closely to make sure there is no rapid or predominant deterioration.

I have 4 left - so maybe pick 2 now and keep an eye on the
tree-bound ones?

Yeah, sounds like a plan.....

Thanks...Gary

My guess is that they will have Jelly seed, especially at the bottom.

Hope I'm wrong.

Of the Orange Sherbert and Coconut Cream I picked and ate that had this ripening issue did not have any jelly seed issues.   They colored and ripened up properly.  I cant speak for the ones that I did not eat.

Mangos always ripen beginning at the base and from the seed outward. R. Campbell (or J. Crane) mentions this in one of his videos.

I don't think this issue falls into the normal ripening precess.
