Salak seeds are psychedelic ?
« on: November 17, 2014, 08:27:20 PM »
A new friend visiting from Costa Rica today told me this funny personal experience : He was handed a salak while visiting a botanical garden in CR , ate the whole thing  seed and all , about 1 hour later he started to feel strange , not really sick more like stoned or like on acid . He said it was not an negative or unpleasant experience . Would these seeds be psychedelic or just slightly toxic ?

Is it possible your friend ate some special chocolate brownies also before eating the salak?  ;)

I will ask my wife Luc, so far nobody here has ever warned me for those.

Yesterday we spoke about eating noina seeds, green mango's, having poisonous plant in the garden (with baby's, toddlers, puppy dogs) and she never heard of those being poisonous. Plumeria, nerium oleander, fragrant yellow rose-apple and so on. I read some are very poisonous  (or parts of the plants) but why nobody here knows that? They grow everywhere.

Maybe the Thai are ignorant but if they were really dangerous they would know i guess.

Luc, i think your friend is pulling your leg. The salak seeds are very large and very hard. How would anyone eat a salak seed? They must have very sharp and hard molars, similar to a pig to eat one of those. Or did they swallow it whole and possibly choke on it?  :o

Lots of plants are psychoactive even innocuous things like avena sativa/oat straw is a calamative, if I consume raw cacao in quantity I can become very stimulated more so than even very strong caffeine maybe its PEA or theobromine/caffeine mix?). There is alot of reference to fruit bearing plants seeds having psychoactive effects especially in Ayurvedic plants but reports are unsubstantiated and it's like one offhand sentence in a wiki or article. Even very subtle effects are noted by populations or effects from deadly poison plants like belladonna so I'm sure this would be out there somewhere at least referenced vaguely were it true!
I can't see how he ate it unless he ground it down first?

Just remembered isn't white sapote seed supposed to be psychoactive  also nutmeg is definitely psychoactive though poison in those amounts! also iv read Terminalia bellirica nut of triphala fame is somehow psychoactive

If anyone had an analysis of the chemical constituents of salak seed we cold look for novel alkaloids or ones we know to have effects!

Cacao seeds may be stimulating due to alkaloid theobromine, but that is very different than psychedelic. Yes nutmeg will get you high, but you'll also be very sick afterwards as well. Very few fruit seeds are good recreational drugs, and many are quite dangerous to eat, so best no to experiment with what you don't know.

Well, since we're doing  True Confessions, we use to harvest peyote buttons near the border back in the late 60's, near Rio Grande City.  Hop some rancher's fence and get after it.  I'm talking a trunk full.  That was before the checkpoints.  Most spiritual, TRIP, you'll ever do.  Try eating 7 buttons.   ;D
