Looking for Garcinia Rootstock - ASAP
« on: April 19, 2016, 06:47:04 PM »
Hi, as a lot of you know a fellow forum member on here, Raul, is going to collect scions from a Mexican Garcinia Limoncillo tree. I would love to be able to order some scions from him, but don't have suitable rootstock. This is sort of a last ditch effort ... does anybody have any Garcinia rootstock (something with a 1/4" diameter or larger ) they would be willing to sell and ship to me? I would need to know as soon as possible. Thanks a ton, y'all. :)

For rootstock I would recommend  Mexican garcinia, Achachairu, Garcinia gardneriana, and Lemon drop mangosteen. Unfortunately I need all of mine for the same reason, good luck.

Has anyone successfully grafted this to anything but itself?

I have some xanthochymus and acuminata if you need them.  PM me if interested.  Not sure how compatible they are though.

Here's the only example I know of.

I actually grafted my scions from Raul today. I wanted to graft some on achachairu but the stems on the achacha rootstock are too narrow despite them being one to two years older than my Mexican garcinia. Mexican Garcinia seems to have thicker stems than most garcinias.

Tetsu:
What did you end up using? Your Mexican Garcinia seedlings? I hear you about the size. I notice the Mex Garcinia is bigger over all, and you would need a bigger rootstock of similar garcinia. I don't want to gamble with my Mex garcinia rootstock, because they are so slow growing, and I already lost a big one during transplant shock. I have two garcinia pedunculata, which are bigger naturally. I wonder if they would work. My achacha is narrow like you mentioned.

gunnar: sending you a pm.

vernmented: If anyone has grafted it all, it's probably Raul.

Hombroniana might work. It is pretty thick stemmed like Lucs

I sent a pm regarding your seashore mangosteen.

Anybody know the graft compatibility of seashore mangosteen and any of the other garcinia?
