« on: May 16, 2016, 05:44:01 PM »
Hi, i have just received some mangoes from Ivory Coast

The same order but the other face of the mangoes.

Can you help me identify them? Here are some clues i found on the internet about the varieties cultivated in ivory coast to narrow down the possibilities :
"The main cultivars are Amélie, Kent, Keitt, Palmer, Smith, Brooks, Valencia, Early Gold, Ruby, Zill, Spring field, Beverly and Julie. The mango season lasts from march to june. It starts with Amélie and Zill. Then, the variety Kent. Finally, Palmer varieties productions, Keit and Brooks complete season"

Hello, could be Kensington and its peculiar flavor gives it away easily. Do you have tasted?

Thank you. That was my guess too. Besides, the period matches with the kent production period there as i understood.
The all green one without the red blush is a kent too?? (the one in the middle)

Yes, looks like it.

Thanks Alex
I got a Lisa that was really a Gefner from this seller so I'm a little suspicion of the other trees i bought.
Though i only got one mango from this over the years (many time it was my fault, incorrect pruning and fert times) it has never been early.

As a follow up of this topic, i germinated some seeds of these fruits, one of them got the tip dried out because i forgot it under the sun, i thought it will die but a week after two sprouts emerged!!
It was like this one when it got tip dried :

And here is the two other shoots emerging!

Can a monoembryonic seed like kent send multiple shoots when accidentally tipped? or the first mango id is not kent but another variety?
PS : Another seed germinated normally with only one shoot.

I've seen Kent send up multiple shoots on many occasions. Also, if the initial shoot gets injured, it will often send up multiple shoots.
