Glenn Mangos...

How much longer do you think these Glenns can be picked and ripened on the counter? Starting to get a little blush on them...

Nice fruits Nancy. It's your in-ground plant?
It's nice to see that you haven't had any more of those nasty freezes in last years!

I have let mine ripen fully on the tree, I never even considered picking early worrying that the flavor would be blah like many have reported.

Thanks Pan! I've only had a couple of frost last winter, no freeze this year, first year since I planted my trees!

Gary, I'm trying to beat the critters as much as possible  :), I know you can pick some of them mature green with some color and they ripen up nicely inside ...

Nancy

I would wait a week before harvesting. Usually the first batch are excellent after that they go downhill

My glenn look about the same stage.  squirrels haven't started taking them yet. They usually do about a week before they are ready to pick.  I imagine soon. it is has been a strange year for mango. Record rain this winter and spring.  My fruit are all small this year but my tree is loaded.

I usually will wiggle the stem and if they fall easy and on their own they are typically ready.

Joe, what do you mean after the first batch they go downhill? Lol...I hope not!

Great tip Dave, I will certainly try it...my mangoes are on the small side too this year. I hope the rain we're expecting next week doesn't water down all the mangos. There might be a depression brewing south and might head to FL?

About a week sounds like a pretty good advise, Thanks!

puglvr, damn you mangos grow fast over there. Over here in the northern west coast, mine are just the size of my thumb.  I'm hopeful since it's getting warmer from now on, I think it will grow faster with the warmth.

I love Glenn for how easy a mango it is to pick tree ripened. O hey, that mango is yellow/orange and I can smell it from 10 feet away. Time to pick!

The blue jays have started showing up in our yard so I figure it isn't long before things start to ripen.

Nice looking Glenn's, Nancy.  Sorry I can't give you any advice on when to pick
as I have some of the same confusion on  that topic.  Maybe pick the one that
looks the ripest and put it on  the counter to see.....then maybe you can judge
a ripening time for the rest!

ENJOY!!!!!

knlim, it is so hard and time consuming to wrap those with chicken wire  ;)...I have used the plastic clam shells but it does have a tendency to sunburn part of the fruit and also cause discoloration on teh fruit due to the moisture being trapped in the plastic when it rains and the very humid weather...but it does work "most of the time to keep some of the pest at bay...at least they save some for me  :)

Picture from last season

Hi Gary, I might give that a try :o)...I'm so ready to start eating some!

Glenn has an extended season. The first mangos to ripen are excellent the rest not so good....
