Soursop help needed. What’s killing my growth?
« on: February 15, 2023, 03:50:34 AM »
I need help with my soursop. It grows so well and then all of a sudden all the fresh growth blackens and dies off. It’s been coming and going and I have no idea what’s causing it. The photos below are of what happens. I decided to cut off every single tip and sprayed with both incectacide in case it was a bug bringing a disease and a fungicide invade it was fungal. It was growing back very well and had out on new shoots everywhere seen in the photos below but then all of a sudden today I noticed that new growth is turning black and dying off again. How do I fix this?

Is this a disease or possibly just sun damage??? Do I just put up a shade cloth for the most severe parts of the day?

Mine does the same thing, and it's in a greenhouse so I know it isn't cold damage. It also happens to my custard apple.
I have no pests or diseases evident, so my guess has always been sun/heat damage. Mine always seem to recover, so I don't worry too much about it.

It’s the middle of summer here so it’s not cold damage. I might try shading it hopefully that will work. really hope it’s not a disease

Did you fertilize it recently? When you sprayed, did you do that during the heat of the day or in full sun?

Do you have other soursop trees or your neighbors have trees? If you do you are playing with fire.

It's not heat damage either.  The sun will sometimes bleach the leaves a little, but they don't look like that.  My soursop trees are in blazing sun.

I have fertilised it recently. Would over fertilising cause damage?

None of my direct neighbours have a soursop I don’t think but we’re in the tropics and every street has a few houses with them.

Shot - do you have any picture of the disease you have in Florida?

Looks pretty classic of nutrient imbalance to me. Not a salt or N burn though.

Your photos were very good with detail of the bacterial infection and it's very particular way of infection.I removed my trees and now i am planting again 1/4 mile away at the other end of my property as far as i could!

It seems that the young growth was getting sunburnt under the hot sun. Shaded the growing tips and it has bounced back very fast. Ado used fungicides but I’m pretty sure it was just sunburn
