My young pitangatubas (2 years old now) have done well so far in ground, we had 28 degrees in January and I didn't wrap them. They've handled mid-upper 90's fine.
I thought there were supposed to be some different pitangatuba varieties that can be more rounded vs elongated, vaguely recall something about the new growth being greenish vs reddish for different types.
