How do nurseries fertilize young mango plants
« on: February 25, 2022, 08:02:28 AM »
Do you guys have recommendations for the go to fertilizer ratios that nurseries use? I'm talking about seedlings from 2 months to let's say 18 months for example, mangoes or similar...

For some reason, most seedlings I purchase come with very wild and very strong roots. I have seen bags of 13-40-13 at some nurseries before, but I'm not sure if all that P is good.

What is your experience please?

Nurseries mainly use the 100% slow release fertilizers like Nutricote, Osmocote. It doesn't wash out or burn.
Be aware some places will market a "slow release" fertilizer which only contains ~20% slow release component. It is not the same as 100% and can burn.

That makes sense, is it usually a balanced fertilizer?

Check a nursery supply wholesaler in Arizona, maybe they can order. All distributors I see at the Florikan website are east of the Missisippi. Amazon has smaller quantities. Lots of nursery stuff is stuck in "supply chain issues". Try to buy pots, etc.

I am a big Nutricote (sp. ?) fan and I stock up on their goods when possible. I've never had any issue with them. Good luck.

I bought my Nutricote from Amazon I believe. It's big in the bonzai community, which are a a difficult bunch  ;), so I had to try it. LOVE it.

P.s It came in pouches of a pound (maybe half pound?) or so. Good luck
