Flamingo Red Pummelo..Seedless ??
« on: November 26, 2021, 05:56:39 AM »
"Flamingo" – Red Pomelo is a hybrid of the 'Chandler' pomelo with a hybrid of a Shamouti orange and a clementine.  This pomelo variety ripens in the period from October to December and unlike other varieties it maintains its red color when the temperature drops. The pomelo is sweet (14% sugar) and seedless and its special feature is the presence of lycopene.

Anyone know if these are completely seedless or just "seedless" ??  Just found some fruit for sale.

Having Valentines and ThongDee pomelo’s, adding a new variety would be interesting. Finding sionwood would be more difficult.

pagnr, your description  probably came from here, but in  scientific publication Flamingo variety from Israel is something else (ChandlerXTaihitian cross).
Never actually have seen Flamingo available in Europe.
Best regards,

Thanks Ilya11, That's a big error to make either way.  I see they say " Hanna"  is Tahitian X Chandler in both documents.
The Flamingo fruit have a good number of tiny empty seeds. 10 per segment ??
Taste is pleasant for an imported fruit, pink red type flavour, and no odd savoury pummelo flavours and texture is nice.
A smaller fruit is about $3.50, so not bad value.
"Never actually have seen Flamingo available in Europe."
Interesting that they are exported to Australia, that grows Pummelo, but not Europe ??
Pummelo might be out of season here in NT or N QLD ?? Or it's to do with the CHRISTMAS fruit season in Australia.
