Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Strange Royal Lee Cherry behavior
« on: April 09, 2018, 01:39:26 AM »
Get the Royal Crimson, there is too much of a gap between a royal lee and a minnie royal cherry. Royal crimson fills the gaps in between, as well as being a low chill cherry.

Thanks, I just planted them in sandy loam

Its in Sandy Loam(Pure), 50+ degrees at night, 80 degrees during daytime, and it started happening when the Santa Ana Winds starting hitting us, it was 90+ degrees, 30-40 mph consistent winds, and humidity in the single digits. the reason why I covered it with shade cloth is because of those santa anas.

Hello, half my mango seedling’s leaves look burned, crispy and all, why is it happening? Is it because of the Santa Ana winds?

well, since you live near a canyon, I would not reccomend growing such fruits, as they are better suited to the coast or the hilly regions. Longkongs/Langsats seem relatively hardy so far, star apples will suffer damage easily at 40 degrees and below. If I were in your situation I'd either a)move to a better location b)grow them in a greenhouse and c) grow the various delicious stone fruits available. I'd rate the langsat around the same as mahogany trees in terms of hardiness. It does seem to make a good houseplant

Reverse osmosis water is the type of water that you drink form the sink raw, it usually comes in a smaller version of the faucet on the side, and is filtered by the long, thin tube under the sink.

It could be from the ungodly santa ana winds we had the other day, my tropicals suffered a bit of burn like that as well, mainly my cherimoya, cacao, coffee, and soursop. It could also be the hard water, you an flush it out with some reverse osmosis water once a month, anyways, Happy Gardening, Matt

Keep both of them, in my experience, the strongest is the clone, and if the seeds come up mono, it may be because the nucellar seedling outcompeted all the other ones. Although occasionally you'll get a strong zygote.

I Would't refrigerate them, as they go not viable within days as i have noted, graft them immediatl y

Tropical Fruit Discussion / ID these problems?
« on: October 30, 2017, 02:08:06 PM »
Hello, my soursop tree has yellowing leaves and some burns in the middle, is it from the Santa Ana winds? My mango trees all have burning lower leaves on margins and look light green/ somewhat chlorofic. Some of the leaves also come out deformed, will they live? Thanks, Matt

I had only 1 sprout

I'd go for flanders, those things are delicious, and suited for the coastal climate Cheers!

I'm using the tree for shade so I can grow an achacharu and a cacao . I can get a ladder and pollinate. Sure it's kinda inconvenient, but I'm using it for canopy

Hello, I have a el bumping cherimoya tree with tip burn and some yellowing leaves, is this because of the Santa Ana’s? It reached 102 with 19 percent humidity.

they will germinate in transit, I have grown mango seeds that way

If you grow them in the proper soil, at least 2 weeks, for avocados, you might want to kiss it goodbye after a few days, more importantly, is the water running or stagnant, that affects how much oxygen the plants can pull from the water. Bananas will come back from anything, mangos the same. The ones I'd worry about most would be DragonFruit and avocados, If all else fails, use an injection of Agri Fos to kill whatever diseases form
