At least you know they do well in containers :) I have some fruiting in a #5 pot. The biggest problem I see is that they grow super fast and will eventually get too big to move around. With pruning, you should be able to keep them manageable.

Simon

Nothing I won’t already be used to,  already have to move plenty of big trees in 30 gallon+ containers. Probably why I keep adding herniated discs every couple years haha

Up potted my seedling plant. Currently flushing new growth

Nick, your seedling looks very healthy, will you be putting it into the ground eventually?

Thanks Ben, yes I’m definitely super stoked!

Jeramy, I’d agree it’s probably time to put that male on there. If you graft it soon, hopefully it will produce pollen for you next year.

Simon

Unfortunately going to stay container  bound, gets too cold out here

Be careful with the amount of sunlight, April seems extra bright. Burned a few eugenias recently.

Oh yea that’s the fun part. Moving the ones out of the greenhouse is easy, it’s acclimating the ones that have been under artificial UV for six months that’s a pain in the ass

Ugh, they are dioecious?  I didn't even realize

I always thought they were self fertile

Wow, very nice guys. Nick has a monster leaf. Now I don't know if I want to show my small leaves on my two plants. Nice growth on yours as well Nate. Maybe I better move my plants into a larger pot, the treepot may be too small.

If it makes you feel any better the other two aren’t looking too hot since I’ve moved them outside to acclimate lol

I already brought out my avocado, some citrus, Surinam cherry , mountain papaya, Kwai muk, and guavas. Went down to 31 last night and everything is fine

How old is the guabiju, and how large? My seedlings are a few years old but they get tip burn every winter and then don't start growing until late spring, so they are still very small (6 inches tall at most). I'm very impressed with their hardiness (only tip burn and a few dead leaves from 15°F), but figured they won't flower for many years at this rate.

If I had to guess probably 3-4 years old. In desperate need of a repotting too

My solo calycina set fruit.  The seeds seemed normal and I have a couple of them growing new plants.

I've never heard of guabiju, though, can't speak to that one.

Interesting I guess I’ll find out in due time

Guabiju is myrcianthes pungens

My calycina made tiny aborted seed fruit when it was alone. With friends it made full size, full seed fruit.

My guabiju flowered last year, but did not set any fruit, so I added a few scions from another member to it to see if that helps.

If you need some scions lmk

Shit, alright my CORG is a few steps behind so maybe they’ll flower on the same time schedule later in the season lol

And cool I appreciate that. I’ll keep you posted. Tree is actually pretty small still maybe only 2.5’

Just noticed the first flower bud on my guabiju and my Savannah cherry is flowering for the second year. Have you guys gotten these things to produce fruit on stand alone plants with no cross pollination?

Second the spider mites on the jackfruit

In my experience growing starfruit in containers it absolutely hated too much water

Great to have younger members on the forum.
$10 wouldn't cover the shipping cost of the fruit.
Support the fruit sellers when you can and grow the seeds out to try and recoup money if it's tight.
sharing extra is where it's at , but that's mother theresa level to package it up and take it to usps and pay to share it with you.

I’ll never forget the dude from last year who wanted plants shipped who was willing to spend $1 total haha

Dude you gota chill out with spamming the forum with these Help Me posts. You literally made a post about this exact issue a few days ago. People provided you their assurance that these kind of wait times are perfectly normal. If you don’t want to take their word the least you can do is just follow up on the thread you previously started

So I regrafted everything with different tape. Bagged them, and put the potts in the sun 🌞 to wake these mfers up. Will keep you updated.

Tape, bag, and full sun might be a recipe for disaster. I’d  move to partial sun  and probably ditch the bag

I haven't done much grafting. It is interesting that no one here is recommending rubber strips for tightening the union. Does this not have merit?

Rubber bands have been my go to

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cecropia Peltata Growth Rate
« on: March 07, 2024, 07:02:06 PM »
It very well could...I have seen trees smaller than that fruit, but they were rooted cuttings.
As for taste, it is a mid fruit, but looks very interesting.
Sweet but weird texture as it's very slimy.
I put a few in a bag and a few hours later they basically turned to water.

It’d be cool to even just see it flower. When I dug it up last year I chopped it in half so I’m thinking this thing will easily hit the over 10’ mark this season

I grew this tree from seed probably around February of last year and dug it up at the end of the season to overwinter. Tree was likely around 6 ft mark. Anybody with experience growing cecropia know if this thing will likely flower this season ?
