We are redoing the landscape and need to relocate some trees. They are about 4,5 years in ground from 5-7 gallon size. We did move some trees before from our old house to this one. It takes a lot of effort and time. I have a Brewster and a Mauritius. They are both about 4x4 ft in size now. Last year they had a few fruits.
Please share your experience with moving lychee trees. Will it hurt the tree too much and we will better off planting new trees? I am experienced with moving citrus, guava, mango,and carambola. Citrus is the easiest one. I can cut the root to 1/3 and they will bounce back in 6 months.
Any shared experience will be highly appreciated.

I am very interested to know more of this Anna Carambola.
My Sri Kembangan was always holding fruit to maturity when we lived in Glendale. Delicious fruit!
Then we moved to Sun Valley, almost 5 years in the ground, and only once it held one fruit when the winter was mild.
It planted in a very fertile garden soil and protected in the corner by 2 walls. The tree thrives, and always blooms thousands of flowers every August/ September. Most flowers turn into small fruits, but then the winter hits and all the small fruits fall off.

If anyone has this Anna variety and can sell and ship me some bigger size scions, i will topwork my Sri Kembangan.
The Florida fruit geek is not shipping plant material unfortunately.

My Sabara is doing fine with native soil, city water, and full 12 hours sun. It was a 5 gallon when we put it in ground. From the beginning it never fussy and very well adapted to harsh summer with hot Santa Ana wind here. The only thing we do is put 3" of mulch around it.

There are some sellers for the seeds, even seedling, that ship to US. Just check on ebay and etsy.
Tropical Plantae in Puerto Rico sells the seedling. I purchased some trees from them, it is hit and miss with them since they shipped the trees bareroot with just a tiny amount of soil.
Out of 3 trees I got from them, only one survived.
Question is, how cold hardy is this Golden Soursop?
I am struggling to grow the green one here in zone 10A. Anyone knows the cold hardiness of the golden one?

One if for rooting, and another one for grafting. Since I have brown thumbs, I have not succedded rooting some of my own fig cuttings.

Mimosa nursery is very bad with their inventory. When I bought my Orton, they did not even know they have Orton!
I just walked around the nursery and read the labels one by one.
There was another Vietnamese lady whom I met there, she bought the Orton too.
In a year her Orton produced 5 huge fruits, and she said they were ones of the best annonas she ever had. She has about 15 varieties of annonas, and a very experienced gardener, so I trust her.
Mine never hold it's fruit, because my area is the worst for annonas.

We had a tree when I was a kid. It has good flavor, sweet sour with a kick of tropical aroma. But not much flesh, mostly seeds. I would say it is not worth growing in your zone, which you will need to keep in the green house.
I will take any Zill mango variety over a ketjape any day.

I forgot to tell you, December is a good month for fresh vegetables, especially cabbage. Taiwan's cabbage is the most delicious vegetable I've ever eaten. Taiwanese believes it because of the fresh spring mineral water from Mount Alishan where it mostly grown. It is weird how I can be addicted to cabbage, but I  did.
For the best taste you should eat them right away after it stir fried. There are plenty of made by order restaurants around Feng Chia. Just pick the most crowded one, you cannot go wrong.

Thanks for the news, Kaz. It is good but bad news.
The fruit is delicious, but hand pollinating the flowers is really an additional chore aside from keep trimming the super fast growing vine.
Please let me know how your fruit tastes when they are ripe, Kaz. Mine has some lychee undertone.

I forgot to mention, pay attention if you see a pick up truck on side of the street. Farmers are often sell their fruit directly to consumers this way.
The pineapple should be in season, and they will cut it for you on the spot.
Guava is all year round.
If you happen to visit Feng Chia Night Market, look for a lady street vendor who sells Milk Guava. The best guava ever. She used to open her table on the right side of Feng Chia University main gate.

I have lived in Taichung for about 7-8 years, and Taoyuan for 2 years. I am ashamed that I have never visited any farmer market when I was there. Usually i just go to any traditional market nearby or night market, and just buy whatever fruit in season. Over there the street vendor offer different variant of food and beverage every hundred feet, so I was too busy eating them instead of fruit..

Hi Janet,

How is your P. Decaisneana doing now? Does it produce a lot more fruit with manure feeding? Do you think it has to be cross pollinated with Quadrangularis?
Mine is growing giant but 0 fruit. The only single fruit I tasted was really good, that's why it is not axed yet.
I am afraid if I put manure it will grow even crazier than it is now instead of spending the energy to produce fruit.

How is the productivity of your P.Decaisneana? Are you able to get any fruit without hand pollination?

It will decide the fate of my P.Decaisneana vine. It grows like a beast, the flowers are stunning and actually smell wonderful. But I only got 1 fruit in 3 years! The fruit was delicious with a hint of lychee flavor, but it was only 1/3 flesh of the rather big shell. It grows next to my Purple possum that produces 50-100 lbs of fruit every year without any care (except pruning once a year).
At this point I am considering digging the Decaisneana out because it is too high maintenance with constant pruning every week. If I also have to hand pollinate it to get fruit, this vine will have to go.
Do I still need to hand pollinate it if I fertilize it with manure? I believe I read that another member in this forum who grows P.Decaisneana and her/his vine produces without hand pollination.
