« on: June 25, 2024, 06:36:59 PM »
Hi Guys, anyone have a grafted Yangmei plant for sale?  Hopefully without RKN. I’m in So Cal. I can pickup if local or shipping is fine.

Thanks
Bill

I haven’t gotten my tree just yet, but it should be here Friday. But I ordered from this site https://changyun.shop/
They have been really nice in my communications with them. Being in California will definitely cut down on the shipping time, he said if it dies in the heat from shipping he will resend me a replacement in fall. They are pricey, but I didn’t see any other options really. Anyhow good luck

The website you showed seems to be a bad one.

That’s likely just because the nursery is in China. I can only say how great they have been in dealing with. My dongkui should be here tomorrow so I will follow up, another member is who told me about this site. They got a few trees from them and are thriving. Most websites that we shop from gather our data and/or sell our data so it’s hard to say any website isn’t dangerous.

This site was also mentioned for ordering yangmei on the FL Yangmei Facebook group: https://www.hardtofindtrees.com/product-category/yangmei/ Also pricey.

If you import, there’s a very high chance you’ll bring in RKN.
I’d recommend sourcing scions and grafting.
Some individuals sell yangmei in USA. But a high percentage are imported lol

I could be wrong, but I think these are shipped bare root. For sure they are defoliated to help shipment. But I will know more tomorrow

bare root or knot, they will have the knots if they had it at the nursery.
Also, bare root is super hard to revive fyi.
Good luck.

I'd recommend buying some rootstocks of native plants like californica...
Everyone says it's hard to graft, but I've had some nice success.
People like Nate at wildlands plants sell scions here and there.

Waiting on it to grow, it was indeed shipped bare root and defoliated to ship, but the bark scratched green.

Planted it under a shade draping to help it adapt. A friend also bought some and his took a month or two to take off, but then grew fast. The seller said he’d resend me one in fall if it succumbs to the heat in summer. I think they prefer to not ship during mid summer.

I’m sorry I didn’t think about it, after a long day at work I just thought to quickly get it planted. Just sprayed down the roots (I’d say well established thick roots about a foot to a foot and a half long). They were in shipping a long time but were still moist and looked really healthy.

Slightly off topic, but not aware of anyone having success with Yangmei trees in zone 11 South Florida. I noted a couple posters trying here.

There may be chill requirements...
but wusu is adapted for warm climates...
In addition we just don't have enough information to tell in SFL.
So join along in the fun and report back! ;)
