So, this post and your e-mail made me curious and I picked one of my Yuzumelo and a Citrumelo 82 for comparison. These are the first ever fruits on my Yuzumelo.
What can I say? I am not good at describing flavours. However, I now wonder if the Yuzumelo really has Yuzu parentage or rather ichangensis. The taste reminds me a lot of my ichangensis IVIA and the seeds look like ichangensis too. I was lucky because even if it was full of seeds, there was quite a lot of juice. I'd describe the taste as acidic with that ichangensis aroma I can't really describe. Absolutely no Yuzu detectable for me. The flesh/juice has no bitterness but no sweetness either.
I much prefer my Citrumelo 82 because it tastes like a slightly underripe, old-fashioned grapefruit. In a good year, there is a noticeable sweetness even in my climate. It does have some of the Poncirus skunk but it is neglectable in my opinion. Unfortunately, the bitterness is accentuated when I cook marmalade from it. And it has much fewer seeds.
