I'm trying to figure out what eugenia's I need to buy a second.

I had my grumichama here in Tampa (zone 9b) flower once about four years ago but it set no fruit.  Then it came out of its pot and went into the ground three years ago but still didn't bloom or make any fruit.

So the following year I planted a second small grumi nearby and this year (2024) the older one did make a few buds but they never finished developing and didn't open.

I'm hoping that it's just a case of stubborn adolescence keeping the older one from giving me any fruit.

Fingers X-ed!

I fruited one this year and it was the only flowering tree.

We’ve reached consensus.
Always plant 2 of anything for better pollination and more fruit if you can.

Just graft different grumi onto it (flowering/fruiting), and you should be good to go. Our tree is over 10 feet tall and haven't even noticed blooms yet. Seems grumi can take its time when it comes to flowering and fruiting.

Yes, 2 eugenias are usually better than 1. Sux when you win an auction for the latest uber rare super tasty eugenia, and then realize you probably need another. My hope is to cross graft trees, keep one multi graft of each species, and trade/share/sell the other(s).
