Jaboticaba defoliated

My 8-10 yr old 6 ft Jaboticaba defoliated last spring and the leaves have not grown back. It is still green under the bark. Does anybody have any ideas what I should do?

There could be several reasons why that happened. You should check the soil to see if it is well draining and aerated. If the plant has been in that pot for several years, it could be in the soil.

I put wayyyy too much Hollytone on my red hybrid this summer and it shed all its leaves, then put on the most amazing flowering display all over the branches I’ve ever seen, and then all the flowers fell off. My leaves still haven’t grown back but the branches always stayed green and now there’s tiny new buds forming. After realizing I put too much fert I drenched it trying to leach out any excess fert that was in there. Not sure if it helped or not but the tree is starting to bounce back. Good luck!

The soil is mostly peat and perlite with some vermiculite and some toposil

So its been defoliated for 6+ months?
 I would change the soil and check out what’s happening with the roots.

Do you have a suggestion of what type of soil mix to use? Maybe a particular brand of potting soil?

Peat and perlite is the go to mix for jabos... Like Bush2Beach said, I would take the plant out and do a soil change.

Well, one of my defoliated Jabos has come back. That's almost a year defoliated crazy right?

They do this at times. I have had it happen from totally blowing the PH going to acidic, also from too alkaline, and also from going way too hard on fertilizer.

Usually just using properly PH'd water and being patient will bring them back from the dead. Can't go wrong switching out the soil though. Fresh start. Sometimes it's just a total swamp at the bottom of jabo pots.

My sabara gets defoliated every spring. I thought it was normal... It puts out great new growth and flowers.

just wait, i changed soil and it defoliated and looked dead then fortunately after 4 months the leaves started to appear
