Hello Everyone!

Looking for p. nitida. I have a plant, and have some sprouts that may or may not make it (snail attack).

As I don't know if 2 plants are need for pollination/fruit (does anyone know if p. nitida is self fertile?), looking for another plant.

Willing to buy or even trade. Not sure my plant is big enough for cuttings yet, but would be willing to trade material with another nitida owner. Have other material for trade.

Thanks for all info and leads.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What To Do With Green Bananas?
« on: September 13, 2022, 11:22:12 AM »
Inspired by Brad, I chopped a fruiting banana stalk that was damaging our fence. In the past, would've waited till ripe, but after seeing those cado trees taken out, got the nerve up to take it down.

Question: Can you do anything to make super green bananas edible? These are Sweethearts. Not sure if they can be used like plantains at this stage. All ideas are welcome and appreciated!

Where can I find a nice sized lakoocha tree in South Florida? My tree dropped all its leaves and may have died.

Its been super dry and the sprinkler doesn't hit that spot well enough. Trying to save it, but a replacement or bigger tree might be needed, or would be nice.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Name That Solanum! ...please
« on: March 10, 2022, 08:23:31 PM »
Hello everyone. Let's play the Name That Solanum Game. 1st one to accurately identify this plant wins seeds of this interesting plant, when it fruits. Looks like that shouldn't be too long of a wait.

The fruit is supposed to be tasty.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Trying to ID Cuban Fruit From Description
« on: February 20, 2022, 02:32:43 PM »
Hello

My mother-in-law is from Cuba, and has spoke very fondly of a fruit that no one has yet to identify to her. She recalls fruit from childhood in Cuba, 1950's and 60's.

Description:

Fruit are roundish, around grapefruit size, and can be purple or green. She does not recall any latex. Fruit was mostly flesh, juicy. Not much info on seeds. She recalls the fruit as being very sweet and tasty.

Any ideas as to what this could be?

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Passiflora Laurifolia Pair for Sale
« on: August 22, 2021, 01:33:31 PM »
Local pickup only, South Miami area. PM if interested.

$40 for a pair of p. laurifolia plants. 14 inches and 11 inches tall, roughly. Seedlings, different genetics. Despite what some others have stated, you need 2 plants for fruit in my experience. Flowers are beautiful and mildly fragrant. Fruit is delicious, complex, more delicate and less sweet than regular passion fruit, no sour. Even when mixed with regular passion fruit, you can discern the unique flavor. I like it a lot, and will continue growing several plants.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fertilization for grafted mango tree
« on: July 27, 2021, 01:35:12 PM »
Hello everyone.

Apologies if this has been covered in another thread.

Looking for advice regarding fertilization for a recently trimmed and grafted Glenn mango tree.

Tree is about 10 foot after trimming, 7+ inch diameter trunk. About 10 new grafts.

Any recommendations regarding what to fertilize with and how much to hit it with?

Tree is in thin soil/limestone. Well established.

Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Advice on Germinating Yangmei
« on: April 19, 2021, 01:30:54 PM »
Hello Everyone!

I bought some yangmei (myrica rubra or morella rubra) seeds, and am wondering what is the best shot at germinating them.

5 of them are de-hulled, and 2 have the hull and all.

Any advice or guidance? All help is appreciated!
