Yellow jaboticaba/Cabeludinha flowers
« on: September 01, 2020, 07:45:21 AM »
I have two yellow jaboticaba plants in pots which are about 3 years old and over 6 feet tall. They put out flower buds about 6 weeks ago. Even though the buds have swelled, they have not opened. Is this normal or is there something that can be done?

they swell up like popcorn, and turn a peachy white color, then pop..it takes a long time, compared to Plinia.

Thank you so much, Adam. What is the ideal pH for them?

I am ambivalent with this species. I had 2 I let fruit for a couple of years and thought I had been swindled because the fruit were extremely average. I tried other people' ones and they weren't going to set the world on fire either. I chopped them down and hit the regrowth with roundup a couple of times. But they kept regrowing and are still doing their thing. In recent years I tried some at Peter Salleras farm and they were extra large and pretty good. I have revised my opinion in that some lines seem quite reasonable.

Nurseries in Australia prefer to sell the sour variety but make no mention of this on
the tag although we are trying to get the sweet and giant sweet versions out there
