First fruits on my Pitomba

These are the first fruits on my Pitomba plant. Thanks to 'achetadomestica' for selling me the seeds. I find the fruits very nice and sweet when they are harvested when they are Orange in color. I am very happy for having got a nice fruit! I had tasted some Pitomba at Fairchild Botanical Gardens and had found the fruits to be mediocre. But the ones I tasted in 'Kampong', Fairchild's old home, were large and excellent.

Very cool! How old is the tree?

I am interested too, I have a seedling growing but it is still small.  How old and large is your tree?

My tree is about 4 years old. It is about 5 feet tall but not very lush.

Thanks!  This is about the maximum size I can keep container trees so good to hear it should be viable in container.

Did your fruit taste like dried apricots? My pitomba tasted very bad first fruiting season, but this year fruit taste was so amazing that I decided to plant more Neighbors (European) who tasted them with me also wanted a plant. They also said they taste exactly like dry apricot.

The only issue I have with pitombas is they are the #1 destination for ants in my yard who install scale bugs like crazy. It's maddening! I had pulled mine out of the greenhouse and sprayed them down with water, insecticidal soap, and Neem then put tanglefoot on. Finally thought I solved it but the branches swayed in the wind just enough for ants to climb the greenhouse wall and onto a branch. There were thousands on it again yesterday.

I hope everyone here never has this issue like me.

I have been told that pitomba doesn't always come true to seed. I feel lucky that mine is so delicious!  Mine is in a huge pot, but still able to move inside during the winter. I do have a bit of die back, but the tree has good shape, and put on about 60 fruits this year.  We love this fruit!
