Tropical greenhouse white fly
« on: September 09, 2022, 01:57:15 PM »
Hello! I am working for a small tropical greenhouse and we have dealt with whitefly a lot. Does anyone have any recommendations to get it under control?

Yellow sticky traps work in the greenhouse.  Here in CA, putting infected plants outside for a week allows natural predators to take care of the problem.

I have been putting up lots of yellow sticky traps. They are snagging a ton of flies, but it seems like there are always more and more. I’ll try to stay consistent with it, along with spraying.

What are you spraying them with?

We released beneficial mites with great results against whiteflies a couple of years ago which eliminated a big infestation on neighbor's ixoras and our shadehouse right next to it. Don't see them almost at all these days, a little bit on sweet potatoes maybe but not on fruit trees like before. This is the species I released, they work the best for very hot climates. There are several species that predate on whiteflies. https://www.arbico-organics.com/product/Mite-Predator-Amblyseius-swirskii/mite-predators
