Yeah I wish I had an answer John.

Nothing I have really grows like Sugarloaf and I myself would love to find something to add to it.

102
I want to add M-4 to my Sugarloaf tree.  My understanding is that they should be compatible as far as vigor.  Also, I'm thinking that M-4 is a more reliable producer and will extend the season, and it's also a superb mango.

Very superb combo John! 🤤 not sure about compatibility but definitely wins as far as flavor, production, and season!

M4 is much more vigorous at least in my yard compared to my sugarloaf.

The M4 was planted as a 3 gallon and is easily bigger than the 15 gallon sugarloaf in much less time. Also it grows almost straight up.

So.. what's it like there now?  I'm flying down there in a couple days :-/

Wet.

Paul Nison changes his mind about plants as much as the wind changes direction.
I know what you're saying.  I don't take anything he says as "Bible truth."  He wants to be an authority on the subject of fruit trees, but the information he presents is always very subjective (including constant mispronunciations).  His heart is in the right place.  The good news: he features Alex Salazar a lot, a true authority who is a really smart and experienced grower, providing accurate and useful information.

Totally agree with everything here.

I also have Maria Black and still waiting for fruit, its only been in the ground for a year from a 7 gallon. Its growing compact thats for sure.

Have you signed up for informed delivery with usps?

Makes it super easy to see everything coming your way.

The variety flavor sounds amazing, just wish I knew more.

Cant wait to see what kind of results this produces at different locations.

Excalibur would be your best bet to try the fruits.

I wish they knew what was what with most of the fruit they put up. I go all the time and I cant say they ever knew the variety of the jackfruit they had for sale.

Is this a seedling, or graft?

What variety?

What is the weather like in your area?

At this point I think they are playing jokes on us with these names.

so the dark stuff is normal?

Spring just started a couple a few days ago.

Yeah, as the leaves get close to dropping before new growth they look horrible.

High end bicycles are usually made in Europe or Japan. Like guitars as an example Chinese made are the worst even the same brand and model Korean maybe Japanese are the best quality while not being too expensive. Mexican is decent but not as high quality as Korean. American made is over priced but there for more expensive models.

It's rare for China to have good quality. Their focus is on quantity and cheap but that may be what you want sometimes and occasionally it lasts.

Practically nothing is made in USA because we have the world's most valuable currency. Without tariffs we can't compete. A Mexican making $8 an hour enjoys the same lifestyle as an American making $25 an hour. The corporations are too greedy to allow tariffs and they donate big money to politicians.

I ride a ton of chinese carbon fiber race frames and wheelsets. I trust my life with them, you would be surprised how good they are at some things. Currently waiting on a  custom painted gravel frame from one chinese company and a custom built to order wheelset from another. Both are considered high quality.

My main ride though is a Trek Madone slr9 gen 7 project one made in the USA but I still love the chinese frame to beat on when needed.

Besides Alex at Tropical Acres taking orders for 1 gallons there is no one else putting these out there.

I just planted the 1 gallon I received in October. Took at least 6 months for that order.

Maybe Im not looking in the right place but I only see C-20 (guessing this is Coconut Cream) is patented by Gary.

Anyone see others?

123
Probably in the minority here, but I like names like "M-4" and "E-4".

Anything works for me as long as the name doesn't influence taste.

Hot, dry Springs in Florida are not uncommon. I investigated having an irrigation well installed in my back yard but the $3,500+ cost just to irrigate a few fruit trees nullified that option. So I setup a rain barrel next to my shed with a guttering system attached to the shed to catch the runoff from the roof and through the downspout into the barrel. I'll likely add an additional barrel later on.
Very smart.  We should be doing more of that.

Im actually doing the same.

Some of my plants cant handle the city water at all.

My city water has chloramine added to it which does not dissipate with time, so filling a barrel with the hose and letting it sit for a week to evaporate (like chlorine does) won't work. This stuff kills beneficial microbes in the soil in addition to the fact that it is just not good for the health of the plants. But yeah it's been dry lately - we need some rain!!!

Yeah my barrels are attached to my gutters and Im going to use a pump to irrigate. Going to daisy chain 2 on each side of my house. Might add a few more to my back yard also.

Filling the rain barrels with city water never crossed my mind.
