I’m in Martin County a little north of you. Mine in ground for 3 years is incredibly vigorous and over 15 feet tall, even after talking the top out. It produces 100s of fruits each year and most go to my chickens. It is ok at best in my opinion, much better avocados out there.

How much chicken manure are you giving that tree?

« on: October 27, 2023, 11:05:28 AM »
I was going to trim my tree and am offering Siam Jumbo Mulberry cuttings for $5 each.
I have a limited amount as my tree is less than a year old but has grown nicely this Summer.
The tree fruited in the Spring and the fruit was large and very sweet tasting. So far it's a winner

thanks

Forecast looks interesting next week.
54 degrees two nights in a row will be a shock
Then it's predicting only mid to lower 80's for highs going forward
Won't be long I'll be worried about the cold nights

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: The secret to growing a healthy Pitomba?
« on: October 12, 2023, 10:50:12 AM »
I have my remaining tree in the ground with mulch encircling the base.
I have been fertilizing the past year with organic cricket frass. I throw
2-3 big scoops around the trees every month from February to October.
I put a couple scoops of coffee grounds around my trees a couple times a
year and keep adding mulch as it breaks down. I did the same thing for the
pitomba that didn't thrive. I also have a drip on the tree but I haven't watered as
much as I should and it seems fine. It had a huge crop this Spring. One other note
I was under 32F for over 6 hours two Winters ago and the pitomba had some minor
burn on outer leaves only. I lost allot of trees those two nights and the hogg plum
next to it died off to the ground. The tree I have is a winner. The other tree was the
opposite.

I have a very lush pitomba tree that produces allot of good fruit.
I bought another one years ago at home depot. It was the opposite.
It never thrived and the few fruit it produced were terrible tasting.
I dug it up and threw it away

This is my Pickering. It held probably 60+ this past year

I really enjoyed a florigon and pickering every night after dinner. Good contrast of flavors
