Florida ground cherries
« on: February 05, 2022, 09:07:12 PM »
Has anyone had any luck with these? I've tried that pineapple variety from home depot several times and seems to die after a month. I'm hoping someone can reccomend a variety that does well here. Thanks!

I am surprised that you have had trouble with these. Maybe it was the time of year? We grew them in the garden years ago and they grew fine. The plant was small <24" and the berries fell to the ground when they were ripe so I assume that it was the same species being sold as "Pineapple Ground Cherry" (Physalis pruinosa?). I have also seen at least one of the species native to Florida growing in the wild. I would get some seed and start your own plants. Now would be a great time to plant. Treat it like a tomato or pepper and you should be fine.
