Pruning cherimoya to speed up fruit ripening?
« on: August 09, 2022, 11:30:29 PM »
I saw a couple articles that state if you prune a fig tree it would send  more of its energy into ripening the fruit faster.  Does this apply to cherimoya also?   My cherimoya is a mature tree and I usually prune down at least 4ft every year.  Seeing some post from the more experienced growers don't sell scion when they have fruit hanging I assumed that it wasn't wise to prune mine while there are fruit hanging. As always any input is much appreciated.

I started to tip tall shoots to around 15 leaves since mid June.
Most shoots are tipped by now.

Fruits don’t seem to ripen earlier.

I can further asure u that this is true for figs, i not only prune and tip them, at this time i also remove the smallest fruit set so they can fix energy on the bigger ones.
About cherimoya, i dont have this experience yet, i was also thinking of tip pinching my greenhouse ones, they are hitting the gh roof but then i thought i would let them grow and produce energy for the fruit set and for winter.
Come spring i will have thicker branches which will have more energy and capacity to hopefully carry fruit, i will prune hard in spring.
