How does the Frankie's garcinia compare to Luc's and Russel's?

never had russell's but had luc's

the frankie's a smaller fruit size wise compared to the Luc's.  but i want to say the flesh to fruit ratio is relativley same.  I'm trying to remember the flavor differences.  Frankie's when sweet has very little tartness.  It comes down to when you harvest it.  Luc's was sweet, but I can't remember anything to distinguish to be honest.  One thing I do like about theFrankie's is that if the fruit has an aborted seed, the skin fills up with the thin aborted seed with tons of flesh (relative to size of course).  That being said, I find you can feel full after eating a bunch...unlike achacha where there is no flesh really, just thin pulp around the seeds (maybe the achacha we have in Hawaii sucks, idk).

jeremy,  someone did not waste time on grafting the topaz, huh?  ha ha ha.  That one is good. Glad I got one.  Now to merge it with a Pitomba or something to get larger fruit!

Cyclea barbata-Green jelly vine. This is the one where you use the leaves in hot water, let it gel up, maybe add sugar and you can use it in to make jellies for boba

Thanks Jaboticaba45. That’s what I was looking for.  I’m still holding out hope for the following Eugenia’s: Squamiflora, Burkartiana, Exceptional, multicostata, macrobracteolata, patrisii, Arandanos, CDQ, tenuipedunculata, minutifolia, delicate, purple plum, and Peachy mango.

Looking forward to multicostata, but I am sure it's crazy sour.

Squamiflora is high on my list, and I hear it tastes good. Same can be said for tenui, pedunc, and anestor. My anestor is growing nicely. I kind of think it needs a new pot already, nice and full in a 5g squat.

I heard multicostata is like a less flavorful surinam.  But I'm growing it for lumber.

My first campomanesias have been exceedingly mediocre if not inedible. Great growers, beautiful, but wow sour bombs without the pleasant flavors like in pitangatuba.
I also am cautious on taste reports because I actually LOVE pitangatuba and most find it so sour it's not even worth growing. That's where I may be different than Joe.

Joe has given highly negative taste reports on certain jabo cultivars and then turned around the next year, or waited longer for them to be more fully ripe, and changed his mind and posted about that change in opinion. It's not by any means gospel, I think it's just a helpful start. He is often the first to fruit these and early reports are appreciated. Helton has mature plants, he's even probably had a generation or two to select more plants from. He is growing in 100% the correct native terroir, so perhaps that contributes. Joe cannot grow selected FL mangoes where he is in HI. Says something? Joe doesn't have anything to lose with a scathing review. Helton seems to be a real lover of the native fruits, and will of course be a cheerleader, not to mention differences in palate. What is disgusting to me maybe someone's favorite fruit. I don't like cloyingly sweet stuff, so a bunch of pouteria is just yuck to me. Joe seems to be a guy who appreciates sweet, not sour, which is something to note.

I am also diving deep into psidium as well, it has yielded easier growing, quicker bearing, and more prolific plants. I also figured I should deep dive into cultivars of guajava since I generally like it and think there is more to be found there.

I told that guy, just go and buy a plot kona side and do the mangoes.  However, as a fact, if you're able to greenhouse a 20 ft mango tree in Hilo, you can grow some nice Flordia mangoes.  My cousin does. But that's at the cost of his orchid nursery space.  Ha.

But yes, he has his preferences for the sweet things.  Not much love for the sour, but I sometimes remind him to focus on the flavor profile. Maybe not fresh out of hand, but in a processed product.  Someone mentioned stipitat as their favorite fruit. I totally agree. Great as a blended beverage with some sugar or something.

I enven made a pie with Eugenia victoriana. phenomenal, but needs sugar.  Or the other tasty one, Ooray.  All sour.  But given the right preparation, can be just as tasty.
